      Role Definition

      Caterpillar’s Integrated Drivetrain Division (IDT) designs and manufactures mechanical and electric drivetrain components and systems used across a broad range of CAT machines. As a Design Engineer, the candidate will support specific projects for product maintenance, continuous product improvement and new product introduction of drivetrain systems utilized in machines and power systems manufactured in various worldwide facilities. Key responsibilities include new product design, analysis, validation planning, factory support, supplier component sourcing/assurance of supply, supplier/assembly quality as well as cost management.

      What you will do:

      • Drivetrain design responsibility for a family of products (Mechanical and Electric Drive).

      • Technical resource for Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) and New Product Introduction (NPI) projects.

      • Prioritize and complete detailed design activities.

      • Collaborate with analysis/simulation and development teams to validate designs.

      • Support creation and execution of technical plans to meet project deliverables.

      • Collaborate with suppliers and purchasing for component development.

      • Perform product maintenance including factory support.

      • Communicate and present results to team members, internal clients and suppliers.

      Degree Requirement:

      • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum.

      Skills you must have:

      • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

      • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

      • Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.

      • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

      • Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.

      • Product Design - MFG: Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.

      • Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.

      Top Candidates will also have

      • Drivetrain design, development, or product support experience

      • Fundamental understanding of key Drivetrain elements (gears, shafts, bearings, clutches and oil systems).

      • Experience with Electric Drivetrain components and systems

      • Experience in sleeve and roller bearing selection criteria

      • NPI and/or CPI experience

      • This position will be primarily located in East Peoria, IL (Building KK).

      • Caterpillar embraces flexibility through a hybrid work model, requiring onsite work 3 days per week.

      Summary Pay Range:

      $95,640.00 - $143,520.00
