      Job Title: Design Engineer – Mechanical Systems

      Working Pattern: Full Time

      Working location: Indianapolis, IN/Hybrid - 3 Office Days/Week

      A new opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer for Rolls-Royce. As a design engineer you will provide mechanical designs and technical support for a range of components and sub-systems on the AE product line. This will include turbine section vanes, blades, blade tracks, structural components, and assemblies. While the turbine section will be the main focus and development depth, flexing to work on other component and subsystems within the AE engine family will help the Design Engineer develop breadth and contribute in crucial ways to the Program's success.

      What you will be doing

      • Deliver on concept generation, detailed definition, and validation requirements in the development of solutions to address the design problems identified by the AE Program
      • Support of supply chain efforts to procure hardware from multiple suppliers including concession consultation and execution of Drawing Alteration Requests (DARs)
      • Provide engineering support of development and/or service-related hardware issues including Engine Investigations, Root Cause Investigations and Technical Variance consultation
      • Provide Design-centered engineering input for safety related investigations such as SARs and Red-Tops.
      • Create detailed drawings and complete dimensional tolerance stacks and establish Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements
      • Prepare and present technical presentations and associated technical reports in delivery of solutions for the AE Program and our customers
      • Operate as part of a broader design team working to apply their skills to components beyond the immediate turbine or needs, including hot section assemblies, turbine rotatives and externals.

      Basic Qualifications:

      • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 2+ years of experience in design engineering, mechanical engineering and/or aerospace engineering OR;
      • A Master’s degree in Engineering.
      • JD/PHD in Engineering.
      • To be considered for this opportunity, you must be a US Citizen or permanent resident.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Experience with turbine component design methods and practices to include component integrity, Structural Analysis, Thermals and Lifing spreadsheets
      • Experience with coatings and their application within turbine and hot section systems.
      • Broader experience with rotating and static component design in highly stressed or critical assemblies
      • Experience working with Siemens NX, Teamcenter and/or ANSYS Workbench
      • Experience with the definition release process and GD&T
      • Experience with computer programming and design optimization
      • Experience working with manufacturing and/or quality, especially with regards to the assessment of non-conforming hardware
