      The Mine Shaft Systems division of FLSmidth is looking, and excited, to grow our engineering and design team. Our main office is in Orillia, Ontario with some remote work possibilities (please indicate this on resume or cover letter when applying). You will become part of our talented Engineering team designing engineered-to-order products with a strong focus on safety, quality, and functionality. We are a close-knit team who are dependable upon one another for cross training, quality checks, design reviews, and product & process development.

      About FLS Mine Shaft Systems: We design, and supply quality underground mine shaft equipment tailored to meet the size, functionality, and production needs of our customers. Our products include hoists, headframe equipment, shaft and shaft-bottom equipment plus a variety of specialty products anywhere in between. FLS has a variety of leading-edge tools and software available for the design team, this includes, but is not limited to; Solidworks, AutoCAD, Rocky (DEM), MathCAD, and the Ansys suite.

      Successful candidate(s): Some of the behaviors and skills which will be viewed as desirable are:

      • Strong interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, willing to learn, willing to educate, and a general respect for the engineering profession and their ethics.
      • Experience with Solidworks or other similar 3D modelling software.
      • Heavy equipment design. Knowledge of CSA W59, CSA S16-1 and CSA S157 is an asset.
      • Experience with static and dynamic stress analysis.
      • Understanding of the mechanics of materials. Aluminum design experience is an asset.
      • Knowledge of underground mining operations and the mining industry is an asset.
      • A licensed Engineer, or an individual with potential to obtain, will be an asset.
      • Engineering Diploma or Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.

      Some responsibilities of the candidate may include:

      • Carry out design work in a responsible and safe manner while adhering to standard FLS practices,
      • Perform calculations confidently and responsibly in a manner which can be communicated to and understood by other technical staff,
      • Support your designs through planning and manufacturing, including proper documentation and management of any as-built changes,
      • Certify and stamp applicable designs or products,
      • Collaborate with team to promote growth and advancement within the team,
      • Maintain strong communication with other designers/team mates as well as other departments,
      • Follow and support the safety and quality mandates of FLSmidth.
      • Ability to multi-task, meet tight project deadlines and manage time are important. Anyone that has previously worked in the mining industry can likely relate.

      This position is an in-office position with the possibility of a hybrid arrangement. Are you available to work both in the office and in a hybrid setting as needed? We would be open to discussing a remote position based near Sudbury, Ontario.

      FLSmidth offers the following compensation:

      • Competitive wages,
      • 3 weeks’ annual vacation to start,
