This is an exciting opportunity to join an award-winning publisher at a key point of growth.
We’re looking for an organized and detail-oriented individual who’s passionate about working across a variety of genres. This is an important and varied role for someone who enjoys seeing projects through to completion accurately and effectively.
The role:
You will be working with the Managing Editorial team to bring our Adult publishing programme to life, ensuring pesky typos and misplaced commas are ironed out. The role includes overseeing backlist titles and the reissues programme as well as managing your own frontlist titles through all aspects of the editing and production process.
A typical morning might see you responding to emails from editors and authors before moving on to some cover artwork checks. You might then work through a copy-edit collation, resolving queries with an author and preparing the file for the typesetter. In the afternoon you might attend a team progress meeting to discuss schedules with Editorial and Production, and follow it up with some schedule maintenance in Biblio to ensure critical path dates are achieved. Following the meeting you now know when to book an indexer for one of your titles so you’ll be in touch with our brilliant freelancers to book someone in for the job. You might then check an ebook file ahead of distribution, check captions and maps in a non-fiction title, or be called on to proofread a pitch document for an exciting new acquisition.
The role is all about the detail and requires someone with first-rate proofreading and copy-editing skills. It is also, in part, a support role, and the right person will be happy to carry out general admin tasks to help with the running of the department, such as proofreading TIs (Title Information sheets) and catalogues, and checking sales and marketing materials, as necessary.
The successful applicant will have:
