You put people at the heart and take pride in the impact of your work.

Work in an organisation based on purpose, structure and process. You know that to make a meaningful contribution to our community and economy, there needs to be diligence in our operations.

      In this role, you'll:

Be responsible for coordinating and preparing Transport for NSW (TfNSW) responses to planning authorities and private developers for land use planning and development proposals across the South Region of the NSW in accordance with relevant legislation, statutory timeframes, policy and guidelines.

The Transport Planner role sits within the Development Services Unit in the Community and Place Branch, and supports a dedicated geographic portfolio in the South Region of NSW, coordinating and preparing responses to development applications that have potential impacts on state road infrastructure. Critical thinking is key for the role. You need to have the ability to review multiple development applications, in a time-critical environment and assess their transport impacts – this requires high-level problem-solving, creativity, and a refusal to accept things at face value.

For more information on this position and business unit, view the role description.

Some key responsibilities of the role include:

      • Undertaking precinct and place-based planning and development assessments, ensuring a customer-centric focus and appropriate engagement of internal and external stakeholders.
      • Meets statutory obligations and required timeframes in responding to development consent authorities
      • Ensure proposed precinct and place-based land use development does not compromise Transport network safety or efficiency
      • Ensure TfNSW requirements for land use plans and development consents are understood by the appropriate stakeholders, by liaising and negotiating internally within the branch and externally with other Government agencies (transport, environment and planning agencies), Council officers, and public and private organisations.
      • Work collaboratively across the branch regions to build a consistent approach to land use planning, assessment and precinct and place-based management within the Community and Place Branch.

The role supports a variety of work in the South Region of NSW – this encompasses an area from Wollongong to the Victorian border, out to Wagga and the Murray River region.

We have offices at a number of locations in the area and encourage people regionally based in New South Wales to apply as we have flexible working arrangements available.

      About you

Just like us, you share our passion for making things better every day by providing sound advice and guidance to stakeholders around their planning applications, to achieve the best outcomes and accurate timely information, adhering to NSW’s planning and development objectives. You will need to be able to build rapport and develop strong stakeholder relations across multiple internal and external sources. You will need to leverage these relationships to seek the appropriate advice and information required to inform your decisions, as well as negotiate outcomes and overcome challenges.

You need to have the ability to review multiple development applications, in a time critical environment and assess their transport impacts – this requires high level problem-solving, creativity, and a refusal to accept things at face value.

You must have experience in Transport Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, or Development Engineering, but we will also consider people from other backgrounds with relevant skills and experience particularly those with well-developed critical thinking skills. In this role, you can expect to operate with a high degree of autonomy while reporting to a Team Leader and working as a supportive team member.
