      Prince William County, VA, one of the fastest-growing communities in the Washington D.C. metro region and one of the most diverse in the country, is seeking to welcome a Development Services Technician to join the Prince William County Planning Office's Community Development Division.
      The Community Development Division supports Prince William County by facilitating and revitalizing its communities as vibrant, equitable, and exceptional places through innovative planning and design excellence for future development, redevelopment and public investment. This Division provides planning services and community engagement at the neighborhood level focusing on the creation of small area plans and special planning studies that promote placemaking, equity and revitalization. The division guides the implementation of small area plans through providing design guidance for new development, fostering strategic investment in the built environment and coordinating revitalization efforts with economic development. This program works with the private sector to identify, promote, and implement redevelopment and revitalization strategies of vacant/underused properties, reuse of existing structures, and quality mixed use developments in strategic locations.

      About This Role:
      The selected individual will perform a variety of administrative duties within the Community Development Division, including managing case/project files, meeting deadlines, tracking milestones, and administratively handling complex processes. The candidate will respond to public inquiries, perform research requests, gather, and document data, maintain public files, enter and retrieve information from electronic resources and databases, and perform a variety of other duties within the Community Development Division. This position assist with coordinating activities, communication and scheduling for division’s activities and special projects.
      Job Functions:
      • Responds to public inquiries made in person, by telephone, or internet for general information on various regulations, requirements, and standards.
      • Provides administrative support for the Division
      • Assists with preparation of reports, charts and publications
      • Prepares graphic communication that target projects or community events
      • Coordinates events logistics and collects supporting data
      • Represents County and Division at public meetings and community groups
      • Assist with updating the website of division’s current activities and projects
      • Manages and maintains division’s schedule and deadlines
      • Records and reports all monetary transactions following procedures specific to the focus area.
      • Performs research and coordinates information requests with or makes referrals to other divisions or county departments.
      • Enters and retrieves information from various electronic resources and databases.

      Minimum Requirements:
      High school diploma or G.E.D.

      Preferences:
      Applicants will be part of a team environment; however, successful job performance will require Applicants to be highly responsible and self-motivated. Additional preferred skills are as follows:
      • 1 year of Planning experience to include managing case/project files, meeting deadlines, tracking milestones, and administratively handling complex processes
      • Outstanding customer service skills in dealing with the public, co-workers, applicants, and other county agencies
      • Excellent organization and written communication skills
      • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
      • Ability to receipt funds and post funds
      • Possess strong organizational skills sufficient to maintain multiple electronic and paper case files simultaneously
      • Attention to detail including the ability to edit lengthy complex staff reports
      • Skill with Microsoft Office suite; particularly maintaining tasks and calendars in Outlook and the ability to format complex staff reports in Word
      • Familiarity with website updates and maintained
      • Familiarity with County Date Base (EnerGov, County Mapper, EDMS, Everbridge)

      Full time 37.5 hours per week
