      Primary Purpose

      Assists nursing staff with patient care by recording patient information, preparing supplies and

      equipment, initiating patient on dialysis with an AV fistula or AV graft, and monitoring and responding to

      patient’s condition to ensure activities meet department policies and procedures and patient’s needs.

      Shift: This position will be a rotating shift: Mostly mornings 6:00 am-4:30 pm or 11:00am to 9:30pm. This is a Monday - Saturday position. No Sundays, but will have to work holidays.

      Education

      • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.

      Experience

      • Must have one (1) year of experience in patient care.

      Equivalent Education and/or Experience

      • May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for the experience

      requirements.

      Certification/Registration/Licensure

      • Must have current certification as a Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) or Certified Clinical

      Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) under a State of Texas certification program or a national

      commercially available certification program.

      • Must have current CPR certification, or obtain certification within 30 days of placement in job from

      one of the following:

      • American Heart Association

      • American Red Cross Rescuer

      • Military Training Network.

      Skills or Special Abilities

      • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skill to use a body of standardized patient care

      procedures and related nursing care.

      • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skill to observe and document patient’s reaction to care.

      • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skill to operate a computer to input and extract

      information within three months of employment.

      • Must be able to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.

      • Must be able to demonstrate basic mathematical skills.

      • Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.

      Responsibilities

      1. Serves as a member of a dialysis team providing patient care by preparing patients for treatment,

      initiating patients on dialysis with an AV fistula or AV graft, monitoring and observing the patient

      during treatment, and collecting and delivering specimens to ensure activities meet patients’ needs.

      2. Sets up dialysis machine, makes appropriate machine tests, and monitors machine operation ensuring

      procedures meet department guidelines.

      3. Documents treatment and updates information into the computer to ensure records reflect up-todate information.

      4. Maintains a positive working relationship with hospital staff and employees, and patients to ensure

      that effective communication is maintained and cultivated.

      5. Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings reads journals and maintains state

      certification as a clinical hemodialysis technician and CPR certification. Integrates this knowledge as

      appropriate into the job.

      6. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer (external as well as external)

      satisfaction. Makes recommendations to the technical staff and monitors results as appropriate in

      support of the overall goals and mission of the PHHS.

      7. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the

      Dialysis area. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal

      laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health

      plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.

      Job Accountabilities

      1. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes

      recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of

      the overall goals of the department and Parkland.

      2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending

      seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional

      organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into

      current work practices.

      3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact

      the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable

      laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks

      advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
