      Req#: DIGIT001519

Founded in 1936, the National Wildlife Federation has grown into America's largest and most trusted grassroots conservation organization with 52 state/territorial affiliates and more than six million members and supporters, including hunters, anglers, gardeners, birders, hikers, campers, paddlers, and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and stripes. The mission of the National Wildlife Federation is to unite all Americans to ensure wildlife thrive in our rapidly changing world. We advance this mission through programming focused on conserving wildlife, restoring habitats and waterways, expanding outdoor opportunities, connecting children with nature, advancing environmental justice, and addressing the causes and consequences of climate change.

Hispanics Enjoying Camping, Hunting, and the Outdoors (HECHO) was founded in 2013 to ensure Hispanic leaders are engaged in decision making to conserve and protect public lands for future generations. In 2017, HECHO became a program of NWF to build a conservation movement that engages all communities in protecting the natural world for future generations.

HECHO’s priorities are advocating for federal policies that protect and conserve public lands and waters and equipping and inspiring Hispanic leaders to take action with HECHO and their communities on behalf of public lands and water conservation. While HECHO is primarily focused on the conservation of public lands and waters in the American Southwest (Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Utah), our work has a national scope and impact. Our mission is to empower Hispanic leaders to engage their communities in the conservation of our nation’s public lands.

HECHO’s Digital Engagement and Media Intern will be tasked with supporting HECHO’s communications, social media, and digital outreach efforts aimed at inspiring and motivating HECHO’s supporters and growing engagement and visibility in the public lands conservation policy field. Working with the HECHO Communications Director, the Digital Engagement and Media Intern will support the social media and communications strategies, and will be tasked with managing the day-to-day planning, development, and publishing of content across HECHO’s digital channels. The Digital Engagement and Media Intern will also collaborate with the National Wildlife Federation’s communications team with the goals fostering a stronger relationship and increasing HECHO’s online followers and engagement.

We are seeking a Digital Engagement and Media Intern to work remotely for up to 15 hours per week from August 2024 through October 2024.

      In this role you will:

      • Write clear, engaging copy for social media, with an eye to increasing post engagement, likes and shares, as well as to drive audiences to HECHO-hosted resources such as blogs, videos, and more.
      • Support the social media function by analyzing audience and engagement data.
      • Create visual graphics and select appropriate images for use on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
      • Find and store stock and editorial images on the HECHO Dropbox system for later use on our digital channels, and organize, tag, and archive HECHO event photos.
      • Help create, refine, and implement processes that support the creation of digital content.
      • Develop written content to inform, educate, and inspire HECHO’s supporters about conservation and policy issues across the southwest, including drafting blog posts and newsletters.
      • Support the HECHO Communications Director in drafting press statements to elevate newsworthy policy positions and reactions, with the goal of being quoted in media news articles.
      • Other duties, as needed.

      Qualifications:

      • An undergraduate student with interest in digital communications and issues relating to public lands conservation issues, advancement of the Hispanic/Latino community, nonprofits, and/or politics.
      • Experience managing a digital presence.
      • Able to manage multiple tasks/projects, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, show strong attention to detail, and exhibit a professional demeanor.
      • Self-motivated and extremely organized, comfortable with developing and building relationships.
      • Ability to work respectfully with people of all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
      • Supportive of HECHO’s mission and goals.
      • Proficiency in online and digital communication channels, including web and social media platforms.
