- Performs advanced analysis of digital forensics data in support of investigations.
- Performs advanced analysis of digital forensics data in support of criminal prosecutions.
- Updates and maintains a reporting system related to digital forensics examinations.
- Conducts extractions of digital evidence from any digital source provided by law enforcement which may require advanced techniques.
- Utilizes a variety of advanced extraction and analytical products.
- Attends and participates in unit, departmental, and professional meetings.
- Works with other analysts, sworn personnel, and personnel from other agencies.
- Prepares detailed documentation and maintains chain of custody of evidence.
- May testify in Court.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
- Functions and organization of local, State, and Federal government.

- Use of a variety of current software capable of extracting and creating reports of collected data.

The Digital Forensic Analyst works with law enforcement personnel conducting investigative research. Incumbents are responsible for extracting, gathering, analyzing, and investigating digital data and computer evidence from an array of electronic storage devices. Prepares digital evidence that can be used in any court proceedings, trials, and criminal investigations for law enforcement agencies.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This job is within the Public Safety job family. This job is differentiated from the Crime Analyst series by its emphasis on digital data extraction in a variety of electronic storage devices.Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Computer Science, Computer Forensics, or a related field with an emphasis on research and analysis.

Any combination of education and experience that has been achieved and is equivalent to the stated education and experience and required knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this job.
Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements:

Preferred:
Current or previous work experience in the field of Digital Forensics.
Certification by the International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists or their Certified Forensic Computer Examiner.
Certifications from recognized Digital Forensic software companies.

Physical requirements include the ability to lift/carry up to 5-20 pounds occasionally, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment. Subject to standing, walking, sitting, repetitive motion, reaching, occasional indoor/outdoor activities, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, balancing, client/customer contact, squatting to perform the essential functions.
