About our Department:

The Communications Division is responsible for developing and marketing information to the public and media about City services, projects, programs and initiatives. The division creates opportunities for the community to engage in the decision-making processes of the City of Huntsville and actively promotes the activities of the Mayor and City Council. Communications manages the City of Huntsville government channel, digital newsletters, media relations, City websites, text alert notifications, social media channels, video production, marketing, and branding.

Digital Media Specialist Position Overview:

This is technical and administrative work in the implementation, coordination and oversight of the use of digital media for the City of Huntsville's marketing and communication efforts. Work involves supporting the City's messaging, branding and strategic initiatives across digital platforms, including but not limited to website content, electronic newsletters, social media, vlogs, blogs, photography, e-invitations, online town forums, mobile applications, digital presentations and Huntsville TV. Work involves serving as an advisor to City departments in effectively utilizing digital media communications.

Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Digital Media, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Broadcasting, or related field from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Two years' experience in social/digital media, website content editing and writing, broadcast journalism, public relations or business-related field is desired. Internships may be considered as experience.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
