- The successful candidate should be an innovative and collaborative administrator with the ability to articulate a clear, strategic, and compelling vision for how the Center can expand its impact.
- Develop and implement a global strategy for the Center utilizing strategic planning process that engages with a broad cadre of stakeholders.
- Lead director meetings, retreats and other planning activities for the Center.
- Mentor and supervise directors of the fellowship, integrative medicine in residency program, research, other educational programs, operations, business and philanthropic development.
- Actively engaged in teaching fellows, residents and medical students, and allied health professionals participating in the Center’s integrative medicine programs.
- Enhance the visibility of the Center locally, nationally and internationally.
- Establish and manage the interdisciplinary clinical practice focusing on integrative medicine.
- Advocate for reform of the health care system, especially of priorities of reimbursement.
- Oversee the Center’s clinical component.
- Set the policies and future direction for the Center.
- Increase the number of fellows, licensed IMR sites, and collaborations with other academic institutions and health care organizations.
- Develop, steward and maintain relationships with philanthropists and foundations.
- Lead cultivation and draft proposals for funding.
- Foster existing relationships with other colleges across the university and continue to expand relationships with colleges not already collaborating with AWCIM.
- Define and/or maintain suitable membership and affiliation processes.
- Leverage strengths across UArizona to develop collaborations; build and support engagement networks; lead and facilitate conversations and convenings.
- Regularly convene faculty around ideas of interest, mentor and facilitate the development and submissions of proposals seeking extramural funding.
- Facilitate cross-university and external communications, web presence, staff recruitment, and partner development.
- Steward financial resources under Center management.
- Increase the number and value of sponsored, industry and philanthropic interdisciplinary proposals facilitated, with particular attention to those> $1M or >2 college PIs.
- Facilitate strategic alliances with industry and/or other non-federal entities and increase the number and value of sponsored/philanthropic relationships with these entities.
- Increase commitment to public service and recognition of the value of research in informing policy and management decisions.
- Increase visibility of the Center with and provide educational opportunities for the public.
- Be willing to take initiative to establish or improve procedures and processes, and creativity to seek solutions to achieve desired outcomes.
- Travel regularly to speak at conferences and to meet with colleagues, stakeholder, donors and to attend special events.
- Teaches fellows, residents and medical students, and allied health professionals participating in the Center’s integrative medicine programs.
- Excellent public speaking skills with ability/interest in presenting at conferences locally, nationally and internationally.
- Strong implementation and evaluation skills.
- Business skills including business planning, profit and loss, budgeting, forecasting, business development.
- Well-developed people skills and an ability to represent and support staff, allow for/defend academic independence, act with congeniality, collegiality, openness, responsiveness, respectfulness, dynamism, innovativeness; and be a good listener and team player.
- The ability to communicate effectively with administration and campus colleagues; be transparent, trustworthy and consultative, and have good strategic instincts.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, strong ability to create personal relationships.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have an MD, PhD, ND or equivalent terminal degree and at least 5 years of experience in integrative medicine with scholarly credentials commensurate with appointment at the rank of Associate Professor at the UArizona.
- Integrative Medicine fellowship training or equivalent.
- Demonstrated commitment to the field of Integrative Medicine.
- A history of productive collaboration with external organizations and constituencies, especially with diverse and/or underserved constituencies.
- Commitment to leading a healthy lifestyle and serving as a role model.
- A record of collaborative leadership that fosters common goals within a department or program and the broader university community, and ability to advocate for the organization.
- Demonstrated national and/or international recognition in the field of integrative medicine.
- Demonstrated success in identifying, cultivating, and forming relationships to increase targeted activities and advance success in outcome metrics.
- Demonstrated success in securing extramural funding to advance the goals and objectives of projects, programs, and initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience with management and administration.
- The ability to communicate effectively with administration and campus colleagues; be transparent, trustworthy and consultative, and have good strategic instincts.
- A record of entrepreneurial experience and ability to both lead and participate in collaborative educational or research networks, connect to established funding prospects, craft successful proposals, and build effective interdisciplinary research teams that are geographically dispersed.

Reporting to the Dean of the College of Medicine as Director of the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine and consulting with Dr. Andrew Weil, the Center’s Founder, the incumbent will work collaboratively with the leaders of the College to further the tripartite mission of achieving excellence in education, clinical care, and research.
