Key Point of Contact for functional leads within other Clinical Operations departments to enable efficient communication flow to/from the centralized teams.
Accountable for high level budget management, process performance and KPI tracking, portfolio and scorecard reporting, high level capacity management trending and general department communication meetings and methods.
Partner with the TA aligned Clinical Operations LT and Clinical Operations BPO Network to develop priorities and goals for each year
Deploy excellent analytical skills in the review of complex strategic issues and proposed projects, quantify impact on business and prepare business case utilizing internal and external benchmarking assessments and analyses. Provide recommendations towards innovative solutions.
Accountable for leading the identification and assessment of opportunities that address current and future business needs within Clin Ops and coordinating with appropriate functions within AZ/BioPharma Clinical Operations to address them with the goal of high efficiency and quality study delivery.
Represent Clin Ops on key cross-functional initiatives within BioPharma Clinical Operations and across the broader AstraZeneca organization; lead cross-functional teams and direct staff in a matrixed environment
Lead comprehensive deployment strategy, implementation, and ongoing oversight, as needed, for Cross-TA Clinops initiatives.
Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with TA Clinical Operations LT on important initiatives, as required.
Member of Study Management Leadership Team and ClinOps TA LT – as agreed within TA
Can act as Chief of Staff for Head of Study management and Head of ClinOps TA – as agreed within TA
Drive an environment of global standardization and continuous improvement
Contribute to the development and maintenance of global operational delivery models and options provided by Clinical Operations balancing customer needs and efficiency
As a leader within Clinical Operations, drive and create a culture that fosters courageous, entrepreneurial, creative and collaborative behaviours
Master’s degree preferred, Bachelor’s degree required
8-10 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry or CRO
Extensive knowledge in drug development/clinical trial development
Demonstratesd strong Communication skills to postiton to position the incumbent for interaction with department heads in delivering effective presentations and providing high level information to influence major decisions
Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to develop strong relationships with leaders and other key stakeholders
Ability to thrive in an environment that often involves ambiguity
Excellent management and matrix team leadership skills that include the ability to provide direction and lead multi-disciplinary teams on highly collaborative efforts resulting in successful implementation
Willingness and proven ability to function in a hands-on capacity when necessary to achieve milestones, resolve issues and build an organization / function capable of driving toward measurable objectives
High level of maturity that includes judgment, discretion, self-motivation, and accountability
Broad business perspective and acumen, goal-oriented approach, process orientation and strategic focus
Strong analytical approach, keen organizational capability and solid time management skills
Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate multiple tasks concurrently
Cross functional, multi-cultural, and global work experience preferred

The Director Business Planning and Operations (BPO) supports TA aligned Clinical Operations function with business planning, operations and communications & engagement activities to enable clinical operations leaders to be effective in their job on a day-to-day basis. This includes supporting the business cycle - budget, reward and recognition, reporting, and risk; business strategy and scorecard tracking and reporting; and leading resource and capacity management process.
He/She ensures appropriate and close collaboration/communication with the other Clin Ops organizations and functions within BioPharmaceuticals Clinical Operations for planning and implementation of the new initiatives, processes, capacity, and quality control activities and may represent Clinical Operations TA leaders in associated forums.
