The Santa Clarita Community College District/College of the Canyons is seeking a full-time Director, Canyons Promise in the Student Services division.
Salary Placement:
This twelve (12) month per year position will be on an individual contract. This classified administrator position will be placed on Range 13 of the Administrator Salary Schedule. Step placement is based on experience. Initial salary step placement for new employees is customarily at step 1, 2, or 3 ($10,878.00 / $11,040.00 / $11,206.00 per month) of this 20-step salary range. All administrators are on an employment contract and exempt from overtime and compensatory time accumulation.

Administrative Oversight
Manages, supervises, coordinates, and leads the professional, technical, and administrative support staff of the Canyons Promise program.
Exercises direct and general supervision over assigned staff.Selects, trains, motivates, and directs assigned department personnel; evaluates and reviews work for acceptability and conformance with department standards, including program and project priorities and performance evaluations; works with employees on performance issues; implements discipline procedures; responds to staff questions and concerns.
Essential Duties:

Plans, organizes, and implements programs and services for Canyons Promise students, along with the goals, objectives, program policies, procedures and work standards. Facilitates communications about departmental activities, events, deadlines, and timelines. Supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned Canyons Promise personnel; participates in the interview, selection, and onboarding of classified, and adult hourly, and student staff members.Ensures prospective Canyons Promise students complete their orientation, assessment, advisement, and financial aid.Ensures the enhancement of student access to Canyons Promise services, including coordinating and directing the intake, eligibility, and student application process; plans and supervises the Canyons Promise summer orientation programs.Coordinates with counseling to offer special workshops, transfer assistance, educational plans, letters of recommendation, and other academic and support services.Directs and participates in all recruitment and outreach activities each year for the Canyons Promise program. This includes marketing, high school workshops, information nights, sign up forms, tracking and monitoring students progress, ensuring students meet the requirements of the program, and hosting all pre-enrollment workshops. Works closely with the Student Outreach and Welcome Center to ensure all incoming students are aware of the Canyons Promise program.Prepares, submits, and coordinates the timely and accurate preparation and submission of all grant reports for Canyons Promise consistent with the State Chancellors Office and other funders.Manages, supervises and coordinates day-to-day operations of all Canyons Promise programs, services, and activities, including recruitment, outreach, orientation, assessment, counseling, advisement, financial aid, special workshops, transfer assistance, educational plans, grants, book vouchers, supplies, club activities, priority registration, letters of recommendation, scholarships, award ceremonies, and other support services.Works closely with the Student Outreach and Welcome Center and Financial Aid offices to ensure all incoming students are aware of the Canyons Promise program and provide aid for eligible students.Researches related grant opportunities. Works with the campus grant writer to submit grants/proposals for additional funding. Performs grant-related duties upon award(s). Supervises and evaluates the permanent and part-time staff associated with grants and/or programs related to Canyons Promise. Ensures that the grant program goals are completed in a timely manner and that the reporting of such is completed in accordance with the federal and/or state guidelines. Coordinates and participates in the development and administration of the programmatic budgets and related grants; directs the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; directs the monitoring of and approval of expenditures; directs and implements adjustments as necessary. Manages other grants, funding requirements, and deadlines as assigned.Participates in interviews and the selection of, and coordinates the onboarding, training, and evaluating of, all Canyons Promise personnel, including classified staff, temporary staff and college assistants, according to established policies and procedures.Complies with Federal, State, County, and District regulations and policies as they pertain to the Canyons Promise programs. Monitors changes in laws, regulations, and technology that may affect District or departmental operations; implements policy and procedural changes as required.Develops and implements a system of support and services for students through collaboration with other college programs including, but not limited to, EOPS, CalWORKs, NextUp, MESA, Ujima, Athletics, the Basic Needs Center, and Academic Accommodations Center to sustain College Promise effectiveness and efficiency.Maintains and encourages effective communication with Canyons Promise staff by holding regular staff meetings; provides information to staff about issues, programs and practices affecting the College and the programs.Directs and participates in the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records, and files related to departmental services, students, projects, programs, personnel, financial activities, and assigned duties; ensures mandated reports are submitted to appropriated governmental agencies according to established timelines.Attends and participates in professional group meetings, including required monthly, quarterly or annual meetings for Canyons Promise at the State and County level, and various District committees, advisory groups, and regular meetings of the Student Services division and managers.Supervises the awarding process of Canyons Promise enrollment fees, bus passes, parking permits, and any other Canyons Promise benefits.Responsible for handling student personnel, program and staff related complaints and resolving conflicts concerning student eligibility, acceptance, and utilization of programs.Oversees and ensures the accuracy of Enterprise Systems and other state reports including all year end summaries of Canyons Promise accomplishments.Ensures that student success is recognized and celebrated.Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
Two years of experience directly related to working within a specialized student program at a community college, university, high school, and/or community agency.
Education:
Possession of a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
Desirable Qualifications:
Previous experience supporting first-year undergraduate students.

Sedentary position requires use of a computer and related equipment for extended periods of time; frequently exerting 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects; communicating and providing information to others; work outside on all parts of the campus and in varying weather conditions. In the event of an emergency, employees will be relied upon to serve as emergency service workers.
