- Provide visionary leadership with commitment to informatics principles and UC Health's strategic mission.
- Collaborate as an integral and active contributor to the planning, design, development, integration, implementation, and evaluation of clinical technology applications.
- Evaluate organizational compliance regarding the regulation and expectations of informatics-related requirements, specifically for Safety Assurance Factors for EHR Resilience (SAFER), and as dictated by CMS, JC, ODH, and other regulatory bodies.
- Represent UC Health at local, state, and national levels through involvement in professional informatics associations and organizations.
- Design and implement prioritization model for informatics-related requests.
- Develop and evaluate departmental annual budget.
- Understand the regulatory expectations, expected benefits, and the alignment of ROI of informatics expenditure to value based care.
- Manage direct reports to include, but not limited to interviewing, hiring, training, developing of goals and expectations, conducting performance reviews, salary administration, corrective actions, and terminations.
- Implement system strategies to improve and/or maintain positive department culture and engagement in alignment with the UC Health Strategic Goals.
- Participate with organizational teams in defining and identifying metrics necessary to measure change and promote data-driven improvement across the continuum of patient care.
- Promote best practices of informatics to maximize efficiency of clinical technology systems and support evidence-based practice.
- Direct the development and evaluation of standard clinical workflows within clinical technology applications to support evidence based best practice and standardized approach to clinical care among the interdisciplinary team.
- Establish effective relationships with clinical improvement teams, IS&T, and data and analytics team, and partners to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement within clinical technology applications.
- Communicate information/outcomes regarding system issues and/or patient populations to appropriate individuals or groups and provides direction to facilitate/coordinate the progress of patient groups along the continuum of care to achieve expected outcomes based on established guidelines or protocols; identify variation in care delivery
- Collaborate with medical staff, health system operational teams, and associated care process models on hospital and system-wide committees.
- Perform needs assessment and gap analysis as needed to identify process improvement opportunities.
- Ensure informatics competencies of clinical informatics team based on Scope and Standards of Practice of respected discipline.
- Empower staff to participate in decision making through shared governance.
- Maintain, support, and encourage others with their professional development.
- Conduct education and training to clinical informatics team and interdisciplinary teams as needed related to informatics expertise.
- Participate in development of orientation structure and plan for incoming informatics team members.

The position is responsible for developing the overall expert direction, coordination and evaluation of clinical workflows as related to the functionality and optimization of clinical technology applications with the goal of delivering evidence-based, best practice informatics solutions to improve quality and patient safety. The Director works collaboratively with the CHIO, IS&T, and other multidisciplinary leaders to establish short- and long-term goals and implementation approaches that support UC Health's strategic plan and Mission to Advance Healing and Reduce Suffering.
Qualifications
Education:
Required: Master’s Degree. Preferred field of study: Nursing, Informatics, Information Management or related from an accredited school of nursing or other discipline
Preferred: DNP or PhD in Nursing or Informatics or related field
License and Certification:
Required: Board Certification in Informatics (American Nurses Credentialing Center-Nursing Informatics or HIMSS CPHIMS)
Preferred: Epic Certification or accreditation - Epic for the Clinical Informaticist
Preferred: Current RN license to practice in the State of Ohio or other related healthcare discipline licensure as appropriate
Experience:
Required: 6+ years Clinical or Healthcare environment related experience
Required: 6+ years Informatics or Information Systems experience
Preferred: 3+ years Leadership/Management experience
