- Establish and manage Trinity-wide DEI goals across the enterprise, directing the roadmap and developing and integrating existing strategies to foster an inclusive environment with a focus on achieving measurable and sustainable results.
- Align Trinity with larger DEI efforts across the university in partnership with other colleges, alumni and development, OIE, and student affairs.
- Serve on and engage with university-wide committees.
- Serve as the central point of contact for DEI initiatives within the college providing thought leadership, coaching, education and guidance to academic and administrative departments, to support progress towards Trinity-wide DE&I goals.
- Convene and facilitate regular meetings with departmental DEI representatives to share information, foster collaboration, and ensure that DEI initiatives across departments are consistent with best practices and the overall strategic direction of the college.
- Seek out internal and external opportunities to provide financial resources for DEI work across Trinity.
- Serve as an advisor to direct colleagues and departments to available campus resources and applicable policies.
- Analyze existing university instruments and conduct baseline assessments to understand the college’s DEI landscape, identifying areas of improvement and growth.
- Recommend and perform data collection related to faculty, staff, and student experiences to inform strategic goal setting and decision-making.
- Prepare regular reports on the progress of DEI initiatives and outcomes, providing transparency and accountability to the Trinity community.
- Collaborate with academic departments and external partners to collect and curate best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Develop and highlight existing university resources, toolkits, and training materials that promote awareness, understanding, and action on DEI issues.
- Partner with Trinity communications and department leads to disseminate information and materials via various modes of delivery.
- Partner with OIE and Ombudsperson to develop classroom climate issues protocol and process.
- Collaborate with university partners to support Trinity participation in events, forums, and dialogues that promote cross-cultural understanding and engagement.
- Partner with Trinity and Duke communications teams to recommend messaging content to tell our DEI story internally and externally.
- Deep understanding of DEI theory, issues, and best practices as applies to a university culture of shared governance, tenure and promotions, multiple competing goals, decentralized campus hierarchy and the unique needs of students, faculty, and staff.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills to influence and activate diverse stakeholders.
- Data-driven mindset with the ability to analyze, interpret, and present data related to DEI initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse workforce and provide leadership in organizational change through influence, collaboration, and partnership.
- Proven ability to develop and implement educational programs, workshops, and training on DEI topics.
- Strong executive function and organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
Trinity College of Arts and Sciences seeks a dynamic and strategic individual to fill the role of Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This inaugural role will serve a catalyst, convener and strategy thought partner to ongoing efforts in Trinity College which includes over 700 faculty, nearly 600 staff, and over 7000 undergraduate and graduate students. The director will play a pivotal role in advancing the college's commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable learning and working environment. This individual will be an integral member of the Dean's leadership team and, in close collaboration with academic departments, faculty and administrative leaders within and beyond Trinity, will establish strategic goals, convene DEI leaders across the college, share best practices, and report progress to enhance the collective impact of Trinity's DEI efforts. The director will work to support Trinity’s goals of fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive educational environment as well as the broader institutional strategy for diversity and inclusion.WORK PERFORMED
This highly visible leadership position will be a member of the dean’s senior leadership team, serve as an advisor to the dean, and report to the chief of staff for day-to-day supervision and support.

Required Qualifications
Education
A Master's Degree in higher education, sociology, social work, psychology or other related field is required. A Ph.D. is preferred.
Experience
Work requires a minimum of 7 years of experience with progressive responsibility in diversity, equity and inclusion education, training and development. Demonstrated success in designing and implementing DEI initiatives in higher education or other highly complex institutions.
