- Partner with ESG leads in each business channel to interpret and embed ESG principles, developing specific KPIs to achieve both channel efficiencies and company-wide commitments
- Support senior leadership in building out the structure to manage and implement the global ESG strategies
- Lead compliance. Work closely with Accounting and Legal to maintain the framework of auditable reporting that keeps the company in compliance with regulatory requirements and public commitments in ESG.
- Support Peet’s sister and subsidiary companies in continuous improvement of ESG objectives and positive impact
- Provide expert advice on core sustainability topics including carbon, water, and climate, as well as global ESG frameworks.
- Facilitate the ESG Steering Committee meetings, enabling leadership to refine Peet’s strategy from the overall strategy and objectives of JDE Peet’s.
- Continue to assess material issues as we grow and scale, partnering with external agencies and key stakeholders to build a strategic roadmap for greater impact.
- Advance our ESG knowledge via partnership with sustainability experts and peers, and active participation in industry forums.
- Manage cross-functional relationships to guide, support and “connect the dots” on our ESG vision and goals for our employees, consumers and customers
- In conjunction with Brand Marketing, develop and manage successful integrated ESG/CSR initiatives and communications programs that help make a positive impact on both reputation and the bottom line
- Partner closely with JDE to advance annual ESG reporting, alignment with global ESG disclosure frameworks such as SBTi, and improve our ESG ratings
- Manage external NGO and stakeholder relationships to maximize collaboration and continuously increase positive impact
- Minimum of 10+ years’ work experience including sustainability program development and execution, ESG reporting and communications
- Strong ability to inform, advise and influence senior executives
- Experience with coffee or related products (cocoa), food and beverage industry preferred
- Strong problem solving, decision making, verbal and written communication skills
- Collaborative working style with the ability to engage diverse teams and influence leaders
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, teams, and third-party advisors simultaneously
- Willingness to ask for help and leverage the knowledge and experience of others to overcome tough obstacles
- Knowledge of ESG reporting frameworks and methodologies including TCFD, GRI and SASB, and the GHG Protocol
- Familiarity with GHG emissions /carbon accounting technology platforms (such as Persefoni) and ESG data management platforms (such as Sphera or Greenstone) preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a related field such as environmental science, sustainability, sustainable business or public health

The Director ESG Operations reports to the SVP Coffee & Sustainability and facilitates the Sustainability Steering Committee at Peet’s. Liaising regularly with counterparts at JDE Peet’s for updates in strategic direction, this role provides ongoing operational guidance to the owners of ESG objectives within Peet’s business channels. The Director leads compliance/auditable reporting across the critical areas of climate, carbon, packaging, waste, safety, nutrition, diversity, and inclusion, giving input to external communications as needed.

The target annual base salary range for this position is $175,000 - 215,000 annually. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the applicant’s qualifications for the position; years of relevant experience; specific and unique skills; level of education attained; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will perform the job.
