- The Director of Finance will be a lead in the finance team in day-to-day execution of core functions like payroll, accounts payable and financial reporting. At the same time, the Director will support the CFO in supporting Habitat GTA’s increasingly complex array of build project budgeting, real estate financing, affordable homeownership mortgage models, long-term enterprise financial forecasting, and other strategically critical dimensions of our social enterprise model.

- Represent Habitat for Humanity GTA as a Brand Ambassador by modeling our values and guiding principles
- Learn, understand and participate in the Health and Safety Program
- Oversee Execution of Core Finance Functions
- Develop and implement appropriate and efficient accounting, status reporting, internal controls and auditing systems, along with supporting documentation, as appropriate.
- Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices
- In the context of understanding the complexities of the Habitat business model, manage organizational cash flow, modeling and forecasting
- Manage Annual Budget Cycle
- Leading the annual audit process
- Lead the annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the CFO, EVP and CEO; administer and review all financial plans, KPls and budgets; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization's financial status.
- Support Mission Realization / Strategic Impact
- Support financial modelling to support the organization’s ongoing strategic planning and financial health and stability
- Analyze and present financial reports, including those presented to the Board of Directors, with accuracy and meeting timelines being of the utmost importance; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; compile financial reporting materials.
- Drive Growth and Innovation
- Introduce and leverage new financial information systems and streamlined processes, where appropriate
- Provide insightful research and analysis to leadership to aid in decision making. Make recommendations to management on financing, debt and the financial sustainability of projects.
- Leadership and mentoring to staff and volunteers, to foster an environment of problem solving, collaboration , efficiency, growth and improved business practices
- An ambitious top performer with a drive for continuous improvement and an inquisitive mind
- A CPA professional accounting designation
- At least 5-7 years of overall professional finance and operational experience
- Exposure to real estate development, project accounting and financing, with understanding of lenders, products, rates/fees/payment structures will be nice to have
- Comfort with real estate accounting issues and financing legal documentation (e.g., APS, loan agreements) will be a nice to have
- Experience with the final responsibility for the content and accuracy of all financial data and reporting
- Experience with day-to-day financial operations: invoicing, banking, AP/ AR, taxes, payroll
- Strong communication skills (written and spoken) and excellent presentation skills with the ability to interact effectively with Finance leaders across the sector
- Advanced skills in Microsoft 365, with a focus on Microsoft Excel
- A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills which support and enable sound decision making
- Knowledge of the social/affordable housing sector is desirable including: federal, provincial and municipal grants/programs
- Proven leadership capability to build and develop the finance team
- Flexibility and drive to grow with the organization as it too evolves and grows

Job Title: Director, Finance
Reports To: CFO
Division: Finance & Administration
Terms of Employment: Full-time, permanent Monday – Friday (9 am –5 pm)
Location: 155 Bermondsey Road, Toronto ON. Habitat GTA currently deploys a hybrid working environment, asking staff to come onsite once (1) per week at minimum.
