      The Director for Financial Management Policy & Reporting interprets generally accepted accounting standards, new legislation, and emerging contingencies to ensure Department of War (DoW)-wide accounting and financial policies are prepared in compliance with laws, regulations and standards; prepares and analyzes consolidated DoW financial reports; and issues and promulgates DoW-wide policies, implementation guides, and responsive corrective action plans to address audit findings.

      Duties


      The incumbent serves as the principal advisor to the Deputy Chief Financial Officer (DCFO) on accounting and financial policy matters and financial reporting involving federal accounting concepts, standards, and interpretations, general accounting policies and other policy issues.

      The incumbent assists in directing, coordinating and providing policy guidance and technical expertise for programs and systems designed to promote and enhance financial management within the Department. These programs and systems encompass: departmental requirements stipulated in the Accounting Standards prescribed by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the Department of Treasury and Congressional legislation; the Chief Financial Officer Act, the Federal Financial Management Improvement Act; relationships with various intergovernmental and private sector institutions, and Defense-Wide evaluations of the efficiency, effectiveness, and reliability of financial data.
