      About the workplace

      This is a 1-year contract role – with the potential to extend - that will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. You will be required to attend in-person meetings, activities or events.

      A typical day would involve:

      • Anticipate and translate governance needs into effective governance practices and programs that meet the needs of the organization and reflect its vision and values. (Including Board elections, annual general meeting, board orientation and education, meeting and committee management and documentation, regulatory reports, and records management).
      • Provides leadership in effective governance, compliance, reporting and disclosure obligations, coordinating efforts and complementing the work of the members of the Board and management.
      • Develop and write board governance policies that are appropriate and adequate to meet the needs of the organization.
      • Provides a communication and information link between the Board and management, facilitating the flow of information so as to facilitate effective Board and Committee discussion and decision-making
      • Provides leadership in managing the affairs of the Board, under the direction of the CEO
      • Support the Chair through coordination of meetings and administrative requirements in order to optimize Board effectiveness.

      Qualifications and Experience

      • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Law, or a related field—or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience that demonstrates a foundation in governance and equity-centered decision-making.
      • Extensive experience in governance, compliance, or policy, ideally within a regulated environment, or substantial experience in a related field with a proven ability to embed equitable practices in governance and policy-making.
      • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance norms, standards, and innovations with a demonstrated commitment to enhancing equity, diversity, and inclusion within governance structures. This includes an awareness of systemic barriers in traditional governance models and a commitment to addressing them.
      • Commitment to advancing transparent, equitable, and effective governance practices, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving challenges related to confusion, inefficiencies, and inconsistencies. This includes a focus on applying inclusive solutions to create clear and consistent outcomes for all groups involved.
      • Values-driven experience in governance practices that center equity and inclusion, with knowledge of the financial services industry or similar environments where governance impacts community and organizational trust.
      • Strong work ethic and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to lead and influence in a multi-cultural and inclusive environment. Demonstrated ability to engage diverse perspectives and foster an environment where all voices are valued and respected.
      • Board experience, particularly with organizations prioritizing equitable governance, is an asset. Experience as a Board Director in contexts that emphasize inclusive governance approaches and prioritize equity-centered decision-making is highly desirable.

You lead with empathy and adaptability, managing change with a focus on creating an inclusive environment where each team member feels valued, supported, and empowered.

      • Analytical: You’re adept at reviewing information, detecting anomalies, and resolving discrepancies with a focus on equitable outcomes. You assess internal processes with a critical eye, identifying areas where inclusivity can enhance efficiency and equity. You manage revenue and expenses in a way that aligns with organizational values and equitable growth.

      • Organized: You have the planning and coordination skills necessary to develop inclusive operating plans, processes, and standards that reflect the diverse needs of your team and unit. You ensure the delivery of services and results with a commitment to fairness, accessibility, and continuous improvement.

      The salary range for the role is $121,000 to $181,200 and a candidate’s offer is likely to be up to the mid-point of the role ($151,100) . The upper half of the salary range is typically reserved for individuals who have demonstrated consistent strong performance in the role and possess a high level of job knowledge and skill.
