      Position Overview

      Reporting to the Assistant Vice President Group Underwriting, the Director will be a key member of RGA’s Group Reinsurance team focused on excellent client service and building a strong and profitable portfolio of Group reinsurance. The incumbent will be responsible for the deployment of a full-service offering to their designated clients. The incumbent will also be responsible for developing and maintaining strong client and prospect relationships. As part of their activities, the Director of Group Underwriting will provide all the necessary group underwriting support to clients as well as sound advice to support the client’s objectives. The incumbent thrives on multi-tasking, being involved in a broad range of responsibilities, and is recognized as an expert, participating in industry committees and various projects. As part of a creative, dynamic, and client-focused team, the incumbent will be exposed to a variety of projects that will capitalize on their innovative and analytic mindset.

      This role is a hybrid opportunity open to Montreal or Toronto !



      Responsibilities

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Build and maintain successful and lasting relationships with key counterparts at insurers.
      • Provide advice and support to clients on group underwriting practices and pricing of complex quotes, including experience analysis review and quote strategy
      • Respond to client requests in a proactive, professional and timely manner
      • Support and assist client companies over the whole range of group underwriting activities including, but not limited to, contract review, group underwriting manual, exceptions to reinsurance terms.
      • Lead group underwriting audits of client companies:
        • Prepare the group underwriting audit report in a timely manner
        • Ensure that internal auditing guidelines are respected
        • Present audit findings to client companies in such a way that there is significant value to both the client and RGA
        • Develop and implement a collaborative action plan following audits
        • Maintain and improve the audit guidelines, tools and procedures
      • Update dashboard reports
      • Develop and deliver case study and training sessions for client companies
      • Lead the development and realization of industry group benefit surveys
      • Keep up to date with group benefit and underwriting trends
      • Actively involved with industry associations and groups



      Requirements

      Education and Experience:

      Required:

      • College diploma / University degree or equivalent working experience in a related field such as mathematics, finance, commerce, business
      • Bilingual, English and French, spoken and written*
      • 7+ years of direct group underwriting experience with proficient knowledge of:
        • small and large group new business and renewal underwriting
        • underwriting groups from various industries and provinces
        • complexity of the various funding arrangements used in the Canadian group market.
      • Strong understanding of the Canadian Group benefits market
      • Extensive group underwriting knowledge and experience
      • A demonstrated commitment to expanding knowledge and understanding of the industry by holding or studying for -FLMI, HIA, GBA, CEBS or actuarial
      • Reinsurance experience/knowledge, an asset
      • Strong computer skills especially in Excel, Word, PowerPoint
      • Willing to travel as required (15-25%)

      *English is required for this position as the vast majority of the work is performed for clients outside of Quebec and all throughout Canada
