- Develops plans and strategies to implement identified efficiencies in research methodology and execution of projects to expedite delivery timelines.
- Conceive and implement innovative research methods to support medical studies and health outcomes research including using alternative real-world data sources and /or partnerships with non-traditional scientific partners.
- Collaborate closely with internal global cross-functional collaborators including physicians, Medical Affairs Leaders, Evidence Generation and External Alliances Leadership teams, Global, US, EU, and International Medical Leadership teams, and Oncology Market Access.
- Ensure inclusion and capturing of patient perspective where applicable to ensure a patient-focused approach.
- Research, evaluate, and implement innovative digital science solutions including new digital health tools for use in Global Medical Affairs-led studies, and seek opportunities for innovation and simplification.
- Be a thought partner in thinking through how to optimize data collection in observational research, Global Medical Affairs-led trials, and External Sponsored Research.
- Foster collaborative relationships with expert investigators in external academic institutions and research organizations
- Ensure that all Medical and business activities are carried out in compliance with AZ standards, standard operating procedures, and external regulations.
- Minimum 6 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry with an MS degree or doctoral degree (PharmD, Ph.D., MD) in epidemiology, digital health, outcomes research, statistics, and/or related subject areas.
- Ability to be creative and collaborate on innovative research methods for conducting observational research and clinical trials.
- Significant understanding of methodologies and statistics for observational research and clinical trials.
- Recognized as a subject matter expert with deep technical expertise in one of the following areas digital and patient-centered research methods for real-world research, epidemiology, and HEOR projects.
- Scientific and business expertise in oncology with a strong understanding of key global and regional issues and concerns.
- PhD in scientific subject area
- Extensive knowledge of the latest technical and regulatory expectations
- Expertise in patient-centered research including patient-reported outcomes and patient-preference research
- In-depth expertise with research methods for real-world research, HEOR projects including pharmacopoeia
- Operational expertise in risk management and prioritization

The Centre for Oncology Data Excellence is composed of highly functional individuals with strong research skills, operating globally across brand and tumor areas to develop data asset strategy to advise evidence outcomes required to inform medical asset brand strategies and priorities. The Center for Innovative Research Methods Patient-Centered and Digital Science is a center of excellence (COE) and is a key member of the CODE organization.
The Director is accountable for collaborating with a team that operates globally and that is responsible for designing and implementing innovative research methods for the conduct of health outcomes and real-world research that will improve the quality and turnaround time for the portfolio of evidence-generation organization studies and the deliver digital and patient-focused research for the AstraZeneca oncology portfolio.
