      Position Summary

      Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Director of Administration is responsible for the facilitation of the priorities, goals, and directives of the Rice Athletics executive team. Functioning as a member of both the executive and senior leadership groups, the Director of Administration works with the athletics director daily to ensure that processes and decisions made at those levels are carried out and communicated in a timely manner. The Director of Administration will establish collegial working relationships with coaches and staff, student-athlete leadership, and campus partners to ensure the priorities of the athletics department remain on track. Additionally, the Director of Administration will have some administrative and sport oversight responsibilities, with specifics to be determined through the hiring process and dependent upon qualifications.

      Requirements

      • Bachelor’s Degree
      • 8 years of related experience, including that gained while as a student

      Skills

      • Experience supervising employees
      • Demonstrated track record of successfully overseeing complex projects from conception to completion
      • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and able to interact at all levels of a complex university organization while maintaining high degree of confidentiality
      • Experience working with budgets, writing, editing, publishing newsletters, and creating master calendar’s for an athletic program
      • Advanced knowledge of NCAA Rules and Regulations

      Essential Functions

      • Provides supervision and administrative oversight for assigned program(s)
      • Develops strategic plans and recommendations to the Director of Athletics
      • Forms strong alliances and relationships with the Houston community for the purpose of developing additional resources and cutting-edge opportunities
      • Manages staffing and operations budgets in the aforementioned programs / units and continues to develop strategies to maximize resources and performance
      • Collaborates with the Director of Athletics and the athletics senior staff to set department policies and goals
      • Performs all other duties as assigned

      Additional Functions

      • Maintains list of key priorities, events, and tasks established by senior and executive team
      • Follows-up with staff, coaches, and campus partners to ensure timely completion of those priorities, events, and tasks
      • Develops daily, in-person briefing for athletics director; provides advice and recommendations when appropriate
      • Participates in executive and senior leadership meetings
      • Organizes and prepares athletics director for both staff and board-level meetings
      • Organizes staff retreats, all-staff, and coaches meetings
      • Facilitates the development of the next strategic plan for Rice Athletics, slated for 2024
      • Provides executive oversight of administrative units and sports within the athletics department (exact assignments to be determined)
      • Establishes collegial relationships with other senior athletics administrators
      • May represent the Athletic Department on various University, Conference, and NCAA committees and work groups.

      Preferences

      • Advanced degree preferred
      • Prior experience as a sport administrator and/or supervising head coaches
