- Co-manages aspects of the WSY’s on site camp including unit directors, counselors, and campers per session.
- Assists Camping Operations Director in ensuring proper licensing, accreditation, and permitting deadlines are met and permits are obtained (Board of Health, ACA).
- Responsible for all safety components of the camp including camper and staff safety.
- Maintain positive public relations with parents, visitors, and the public at all times.
- Communicate to camp families, staff, vendors, and partners in a timely, consistent manner.
- Works with Director of Camp Operations to ensure Camp Wells enrollment meets or surpasses target.
- Responsible for controlling payroll and ensuring it is submitted to the Director of Camping Operations in a timely manner.
- Co-plan and lead an effective camp orientation, with help from Director of Camping Operations, Co-Director, and Unit Directors.
- Maintain records essential for control, evaluation, reporting and appropriate scheduling.
- Work with Specialists to develop curriculum and activity plans.
- Collect on-boarding paperwork, train, evaluate and if necessary, terminate camp staff, including counselors, junior counselors, specialists, etc. (some of the hiring responsibilities will be delegated out to HR through paperless onboarding).
- Oversee and delegate purchase of equipment and supplies to ensure within budget.
- Enact camp emergency procedures when warranted and drill accordingly.
- Work with staff and families of campers with unique needs and develop an age-appropriate guidance plan.
- Meet regularly with the Director of Camping Operations and Camp Wells Leadership Team before, during, and after the camping season.
- Supervise, plan, and attend camp special events, including family nights.
- Responsible for sharing all pertinent camper information to appropriate staff.
- Work cohesively with all staff of the West Suburban Y, working closely daily with members of the Camping Services department.
- Follow established health and safety standards of the YMCA, Board of Health, and ACA.
- Attend required meetings, training, and special events.
- Demonstrate and teach the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility to all campers and staff.
- Other tasks and projects as assigned.

- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in education, community recreation or a related discipline preferred or years of related experience.
- Must be 21 or over.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid.
- At least two seasons previous administrative experience working in a summer camp setting preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong programming, planning, implementation and follow-through skills.
- Capacities to recruit, train, motivate and supervise staff.
- Positive attitude and ability to build a cohesive team.
- Implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
- Good role model, high integrity, and level of professionalism, and adaptable.
- Acts proactively to ensure positive outcomes.
- Exceptional skills in human relations, program management and staff development. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to think and act quickly and safely in emergency situations.

Each week campers have a blast with full days of traditional camp games, sports, arts and crafts, swim lessons, hiking, free swim, nature walks, exploration, and camp-wide fun! All activities are run by trained counselors who model the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Camping Operations, the Camp Wells Director will work collaboratively with the other leadership staff to mutually administer and develop the policies and programs of the YMCA Camp Wells located 135 Wells Ave in Newton, MA.
