ASM Global, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities, has an excellent and immediate opening for a newly created leadership career opportunity as Director of Catering and Events for the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center and the Aquarium of the Pacific.

The Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center is seeking a highly motivated Director of Catering and Events to oversee all aspects of our catering and event services. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of our planning, organizing, and executing successful high-volume events while maintaining a premier level of customer service and client satisfaction. This role will be the glue to two major business units to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and effective teamwork. As the Director of Catering and Events, this hands-on and solution-oriented leader will be to keep a “bigger picture” mindset while managing ensuring that all events are executed within budget.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manages the overall catering and events program for the Long Beach Entertainment & Convention Center and the Aquarium of the Pacific.
• Work closely with the sales team to ensure all client needs are met.
• Plan and execute successful events, including weddings, corporate events, conventions, and other social events.
• Oversee the catering team, including hiring, training, and scheduling staff.
• Develop and implement catering and events policies and procedures to ensure consistency and quality.
• Manage and maintain inventory of catering equipment and supplies.
• Build and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers.
• Monitor event budgets and ensure that all events are executed within budget.
• Ensure that all events are compliant with local and state regulations.
• Maintains cost and quality control standards.

Leadership Responsibilities:

Manages subordinate Catering, Events, and collaborates with operational leadership. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of catering sales and events. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ASM's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and / or Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in hospitality management or related field preferred.
• 7+ years’ experience in catering and events management level (Director preferred) position, preferably in a convention or similar venue.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Experience with budgeting and financial management.
• Knowledge of catering and event regulations and requirements.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Proven track record of exceeding customer service and quality standards required.
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Skill and Abilities:

• Excellent organizational and planning skills
• Professional communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong customer service orientation

Computer Skills:

• Proficiency with MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
• Experience with Ungerboek and Caterease is a plus.

Other Qualifications:

• Must have reliable transportation.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule according to the needs of the business, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
