- The DON will be responsible for hiring and retaining a quality work force in the nursing department. The DON will be responsibility for interviewing potential employees seeking employment within the nursing department. The DON is responsible for ensuring the seamless hiring practice for all licensed nurses, registered nurses, and certified nursing assistants at AMHC.

The DON is responsible for the onboarding process with newly hired personnel in the nursing department. The DON is responsible for ensuring that nursing personnel are scheduled to work after completing new employee orientation and receiving a copy of their work schedule in a timely manner. The DON is responsible for the assignment and coordination of staff daily on each shift.

The DON oversees each employee’s performance for the first ninety (90) days of employment following the completion of the new employee orientation process, and annually, thereafter. The DON is responsible for the oversight and management of disciplinary action being issued for all nursing personnel.

The DON must possess the ability to communicate effectively with other managers and staff in the facility and with the public. The DON will be able to demonstrate diplomacy in communicating with the public, staff members, residents, and the Responsible Party.

The DON is responsible for assisting the facility’s Medical Director to coordinate all medical services including the resident certification and re-certification visits, the monitoring of laboratory services, outpatient services ordered, and consultation visits to residents. The DON is responsible for the investigation of all nursing grievances related to patient care and services. Upon completion of the investigation, the DON will provide a copy of the grievance investigation for the facility’s Administrator to review.

The DON is responsible for developing, implementing, and revising policies for the nursing department and will provide a draft of any personnel policies he/she authors for approval by Administration. The DON will maintain ethical and professional standards twenty-four (24) hours daily.

The DON is responsible for informing the Administrator of unusual incidents or as a resident experiences a significant change in condition, including enrollment in Hospice services. The DON will embrace, follow, and lead by example embracing the Trezevant Manor “Employee Code of Conduct.”

The DON will ensure the nursing home remains in compliance with the CMS Federal Guidelines for nursing homes and follows Nursing Home Standards for TN long term care facilities. The DON will follow all facility policies and encourage staff to comply with the various policies for employees in the nursing home.

The DON will advise the Administrator of the name and job title for the staff member in charge of the daily nursing operation when the DON is not on duty as scheduled. The DON will make walking rounds daily to assess resident and staff engagement on each unit.

The DON will be responsible for maintaining service delivery within the nursing budget of the facility. The DON will be responsible for attending New Family Orientation with each newly admitted resident’s family/RP within three (3) days of the resident being admitted for nursing care.

The DON will be responsible for the development and oversight of the infection control program, the care plan process and MDS submissions, the oversight of the medical record department, and all clinical services provided.

The DON will be responsible for the investigation of each resident/Responsible Party (RP) grievance and resolving the grievances related to the optimum nursing care that all residents are entitled to receive.

The DON will be responsible for effectively communicating with the other members of the interdisciplinary team promoting quality resident care.
The DON will ensure that all State and Federal regulations are implemented by the clinical nursing staff. The DON will immediately report any trends noted to the Administrator when care is out of compliance.

The DON is responsible for participating in the tracking and trending of monthly QAPI performance improvement program key indicators and report findings to the committee. The DON is responsible for attending clinical meetings, weekly, and more frequently as indicated.

The DON is responsible for performing other duties as assigned by the Administrator.
- Must possess a BSN in the State of TN or multi-state license as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Must possess a current CPR certification.
- Must have at least five (5) years' experience as a BSN and 3 years' experience in a SNF unit.

SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall planning and daily management of clinical nursing services at Allen Morgan Health and Rehabilitation Center. The primary responsibility of the DON is overseeing the daily operations of the nursing staff, aiding charge nurses with admissions, discharges, and change in a resident’s status, and evaluation of nursing service skills being delivered to the residents residing in the facility. The DON must hold an unencumbered nursing license to practice in the State of Tennessess that is issued by the State of TN Board of Nursing.
