      POSITION SUMMARY

      This is a SYGMA corporate leadership operations position that exists to develop bench strength to support the performance and growth of SYGMA’s future. Incumbents will be training in the areas listed below and will complete multiple special projects or interim assignments. The Director of Operations, SYGMA will share, with the Regional VP of Operations, in the accountability of the overall performance of SYGMA’s operations. A qualified candidate is relocatable and willing to accept a variety of SYGMA locations for advancement when they successfully compete for a VPGM opportunity.

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Will be trained to operate a center in a manner that ensures a positive, accurate, efficient, fiscally responsible daily work and safety of Inbound and Outbound Warehouse, Transportation (Delivery), Fleet Services, Facilities departments and associates.

      • Complete learning assignments and demonstrate that he/she is able to apply training to real situations as projects or interim GM assignments take place.

      • Provide leadership support at a variety of centers to support key initiatives, fill interim vacancies that may occur. Actively supports distribution center and office in the achievement of goals.

      • Oversees emergency response or crisis management activities. Develops and maintains liaisons with local emergency management and other entities in order to facilitate plan development and response effort coordination.

      • Gain knowledge of best practices within SYGMA and within the industry and share with Regional VP of Operations and the sr leadership team.

      • Models behaviors that are consistent with SYGMA’s leadership framework in all interactions.

      • Establishes relationships with functional leaders across the company (SYGMA and Sysco enterprise) to accelerate working relationships and professional network.

      • May conduct audits and work with appropriate leaders to identify corrective actions for improvement.

      • Collaborates with Merchandising, Sales, and Supply Chain to resolve any customer or delivery opportunities or issues. Visits customer locations and meets with customers to address issues and assess delivery difficulty.

      • Ensures compliance with all Insurance Pooling requirements; with local, state, federal and provincial regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, DOT, FDA, USDA, DOL, etc.); with licensing and log book requirements and with food safety policies, protocols and requirements.

      • Monitors the condition and maintenance of the warehouse, fleet services, equipment, software, ammonia refrigeration system, HVAC systems, fire protection, and office by ensuring that all are kept consistent with the safety, security, sanitation and appearance standards set by Sysco/SYGMA in an effort to reduce or eliminate operations-related injuries or accidents, damage/loss of product or equipment, and unnecessary costs. Ensures contingency systems/practices/protocols are in place to eliminate business disruption.

      • Travel will be required.

      • Director of Operations, SYGMA will be expected to relocate in the future when selected for a VPGM role at one of the locations identified as acceptable upon entry, not limited to these locations.

      REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

      • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management or a closely related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

      • 8 years professional experience with demonstrated progressive levels of management experience (with at least 4 - 5 years in operational management experience)

      • Experience in warehouse and transportation preferred.

      • Must be willing to relocate to advance into a Vice President of Operations position

      ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

      • Ability to read, comprehend, write and speak English.

      • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

      • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

      • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

      • Demonstrated knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software, and ability to learn Sysco technology software and programs. Must have excellent computer skills.

      • Working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

      • Working knowledge of environmental regulations/legislation and governing bodies.

      • Ability to successfully engage and lead individual and team discussions and meetings.

      • Ability to apply all relevant policies in a consistent, timely and objective manner.

      • Capable of working with peers and associates from other departments, sites, Corporate and the business community in a proactive and constructive manner.

      • Ability to work in a disciplined manner and capable of following established procedures, practices and comply with local, state and federal regulations.

      • Ability to manage the pressures and stress associated with a deadline-oriented atmosphere and customer service issues. Demonstrates skill in making independent decisions in support of company policies and procedures in a timely manner.

      • Reports to work promptly and regularly; works well with others; demonstrates the ability to consistently meet deadlines.

      • To be successful in this position, the individual performing the duties must successfully demonstrate all Director level Leadership Framework competencies.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

      WORK ENVIRONMENT

      • The associate may be required to travel to other sites within the region.

      • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally exposed to wet, hot, extreme cold and/or humid conditions; and moving mechanical parts and may be required to work in confined spaces. The associate works non-traditional business hours including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and on-call.

      • The associate is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The associate is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
