      The Executive Search Group (ESG) is UVA’s internal search firm in the Office of the President. ESG combines expertise in executive search with deep knowledge of and relationships at UVA to provide a unique competitive advantage in identifying and recruiting world class leaders to UVA.

      ESG conducts comprehensive, rigorous, and high-touch searches across all 12 Schools, UVA Health, University-Associated Organizations, and Athletics. ESG’s consultants have long careers in executive search, all with a unique understanding and appreciation of the University mission and culture. ESG’s recruiting associate team support and execute complex search processes, including extensive initial research of potential candidates, and manage logistics and administrative preparation for simultaneous searches related to search committees, candidates, and stakeholders.

      ESG is seeking an experienced, team player and leader to serve as its Director of Recruiting Operations (Director). The Director will play a key leadership role in ensuring seamless operations and oversee the recruiting associate team, support ESG’s highest level searches, and seek overall operational excellence. The Director will report to the Managing Director.

      The Role

      The Director of Recruiting Operations position has an exciting mix of management, operations, and client facing responsibilities. The Director will have a demonstrated ability to innovate, influence, and improve processes. They will have the ability to manage a team with a focus on mentorship and facilitating career development and growth. They will thrive in a fast-paced and evolving environment. The role will deliver on the following areas with a constant focus on the client and team experience:

      Leadership, Management, and Operations Responsibilities

      • Lead and inspire a team of highly skilled and dedicated recruiting associates (RA). Hire, mentor, and retain talent in a competitive environment
      • Design and support individual and team training and development
      • Assign searches and research, ensure balanced workloads and superior service
      • Utilize project management tools and create dashboards for visibility amongst the team and updates to leadership on search progress
      • Proactively identify opportunities for improved processes and/or increased efficiency
      • Support transition to CRM platform
      • Streamline processes to focus on delivering highest value
      • Play key role in achieving operational excellence
      • Create common training, processes, and service levels across search portfolios
      • Cultivate positive relations with university and community to sustain existing relationships and garner new opportunities
      • Collaborate with leadership to align division priorities with broader University mission and strategy
      • Assist in producing quarterly recruitment reports for the president
      • Focus on team culture and engagement in a hybrid work environment

      Executive Search Responsibilities

      • Primary liaison between ESG, Hiring Officials, Search Committees, and Candidates on the highest-level searches ESG conducts; plan and coordinate all search meetings and materials
      • Assist in writing leadership position specifications, candidate, and search updates
      • Schedule various stages of interviews; coordinate and facilitate extensive multiday stakeholder visits with stakeholders across the university – senior leadership, faculty, staff, students, boards
      • Create high touch recruiting visit experiences for finalist candidates and their families to include real estate and school tours, special interests, community events, meals, etc.
      • Ensure detailed briefing materials for executive leadership
      • Create and collect survey feedback and provide reports; utilize applicant-tracking system
      • Provide superior service and expertise to candidates, committees, hiring officials, and colleagues

      Experience, Skills, and Competencies

      • Prior experience in high touch, client-focused, service role
      • Experience managing a team and delivering superior results
      • Operations and/or project management experience; recruiting experience a plus
      • Superior verbal and written communication skills; active listener and learner
      • Exceptional relationship builder; flexible and resilient
      • Positive, knowledgeable, and helpful to clients and colleagues
      • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and achieve success
      • Excel working independently and as part of a high performing team

      • Bachelor's degree required
      • At least 7 years of related experience
