- Create, calculate, and monitor Risk and Underwriting team KPIs, SLAs, goals, and daily decisions.
- Coach, mentor, and develop direct reports with the ability to influence positive changes.
- Develop employees to meet their individual career goals and the organization’s goals.
- Analyze transaction processing data and Risk/Underwriting team decisions to mitigate potential losses and/or expose opportunities.
- Additional escalation point on all team decisions.
- Evaluate the systems, teams, procedures, and processes to then develop a clear plan of how the Risk, Underwriting, and Compliance teams can evolve to meet the needs of various stakeholders.
- Set company risk policies & thresholds that grow top-line revenue, protect against losses, and provide a positive client experience in consultation with individual team members.
- Oversight of industry regulatory policies and internal controls – e.g. AML/OFAC, KYC, Exclusions/Approval List & Requirements, etc. including company training, testing, and execution.
- Responsible for understanding and evaluating all merchant-facing losses across all product channels, (e.g. credit card, ACH, product) supplying recommendations, and reporting to key stakeholders.
- Assist in cross-functional work to reduce credit losses and improve collections process/balance.
- Develop industry best practices for ongoing periodic reviews on high volume and/or high credit risk exposure merchants.
- Review and assess reports of suspicious account activity.
- Advise the company on industry best practices and emerging trends within payments risk management.
- Oversight of card brand, sponsor bank, and processor audits.
- At least 5-10 years of experience leading risk and underwriting operations in the payments industry.
- Experience with financial services risk management and payment processors.
- Must possess the ability to think critically, holistically, and quantitatively as well as the ability to teach that mindset to others.
- Sound decision-making that stems from learning who to engage with, and knowing what information to gather mixed with a balance of speed, quality, and assessment of possible impacts to all various stakeholders.
- Ability to work with ambiguity and make/coach decisions effectively.
- Comfort in knowing how to interpret situations holistically and assessing the odds of risk and success of mitigation techniques.
- Asking questions with a high degree of curiosity to gain a full understanding to accurately assess impact.
- Active listening and strategic negotiation.
- Successful data-driven analysis experience.
- Ability to understand Credit Risk and coach team members on best practices for analyzing potential risk through processing data and/or financial statements and ratios.
- Internal control and regulatory compliance planning, strategy, and execution experience.
- Design an overall risk management strategy, with key stakeholders, that mitigates any areas of exposure, reduces losses/liabilities, creates more revenue-generating opportunities, and improves the partner/merchant experience.
- Creating a space for Gravity and its teams to grow into the future through scaled operations, revenue and risk loss management, and cross-functional strategic initiatives.
- Structuring operations so that workload can be streamlined and headcount remains flat as we grow.
- Organize compliance and contractual liabilities, creating a strategy to mitigate any ongoing concerns.
- Create Risk and Underwriting teams that are seen as trusted business partners for internal and external customers.
- Leading the Risk and Underwriting teams from a day-to-day, merchant-facing perspective; ensuring we are effectively operating, decisioning, and supporting the goals of the company.
- Strategically navigating risk beyond the day-to-day to identify opportunities on the team and cross-functionally, build a clear vision for risk, and find gaps.
- Must have access to a wired internet connection
- Must have access to at least a 25 megabits per second (mbps) download and 20 mbps upload speed connection
- Must be able to use a Windows Based PC.

The salary range for this position is $120,000-$200,000.
