      Start Date: 2024-2025 School Year Terms of Employment Responsible To: Assistant Superintendent for Special Services Location: McHenry Community High School - Traveling is required Calendar: 180-day, School-Year Calendar with 25 summer days as assigned Compensation: Is commensurate with experience Benefits: Eligible for medical insurance and paid leave Minimum Qualifications: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with a Principal endorsement or equivalent administrative endorsement is required (formerly Type 75 certification). Illinois Special Education endorsement is required. Illinois Director of Special Education endorsement is preferred but not required. Must be endorsed in the Educator Licensure Information System (ELIS) to evaluate certified staff. Five years of successful experience as a certified Special Education instructor Three years of leadership experience Special Education is preferred. An ability to foster positive student/school/community relations. Strong interpersonal and writing skills. Communicate effectively with students, staff, administration, and the community. Excellent work ethic. Adheres to required confidentiality. The ability to come to work regularly and to be on time. The ability to attend evening and weekend events as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Must perform all responsibilities in a professional manner consistent with district policy and practices. Coordinate, lead, and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Special Education Department and staff in the school buildings. Oversee the implementation of special education programs and services such as adjusted learning, self-contained, learning resource, and transitions programs. Collaborate with various building administrators to support the Special Education Department. Evaluate certified staff and educational support staff as assigned. Ensure that IEPs are developed and implemented for each student with a disability eligible for special education services. Ensure the district complies with all rules, regulations, and laws regarding students eligible for special education services. Oversee the function and implementation of special education professional learning communities (PLCs). Create and administer a plan for the orientation, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for certified and educational support professional staff. Create and monitor the annual Special Education building budget. Lead the development of department curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Evaluate the effectiveness of courses in the department and make recommendations to the Curriculum Committee. Communicate with feeder schools to facilitate and improve the transition from feeder schools to high school programs. Create and maintain the process for ensuring all special education records adhere to district policies, the State of Illinois, and federal regulations. Other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods. Ability to move freely and perform duties in numerous locations throughout the day (involving the ability to stoop, bend, and reach as needed). Ability to occasionally move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials. Exposure to noise and activity in a school setting.
