      Job Title: Director of Technology
      Exemption Status/Test: Exempt/Administrative
      Reports to: Superintendent
      Dept./School: Technology Services
      Contract Days: 226

      Primary Purpose:

      Provide leadership and direction for the district’s technology services, including infrastructure, network management, instructional technology, and data systems. Ensure all technology supports teaching, learning, and district operations effectively, securely, and efficiently.

      Qualifications:

      Education/Certification:

      • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (required)

      • Master’s degree in Educational Technology, Information Systems, or related field (required)

      • Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL) or similar certification (preferred)

      Special Knowledge/Skills:

      • Strong understanding of instructional technology integration in PK–12 settings

      • Expertise in network systems, cybersecurity, hardware/software management, and data privacy

      • Ability to lead a technical team and manage large-scale technology projects

      • Familiarity with TEA compliance, eRate, and federal/state funding for technology

      • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills

      Experience:

      • Minimum of 3 years of experience in educational technology or IT leadership

      • Experience in public education

      • Proven experience managing technical staff and districtwide systems

      Major Responsibilities and Duties:

      Technology Leadership and Vision

      1. Develop and implement a districtwide technology plan aligned to instructional and operational goals.

      2. Collaborate with instructional and administrative leaders to support the effective integration of technology in classrooms.

      3. Stay current on emerging technologies and make recommendations for innovation, upgrades, and sustainability.

      Infrastructure and Network Management

      1. Oversee all aspects of district technology infrastructure, including network systems, Wi-Fi, servers, and cloud services.

      2. Ensure robust cybersecurity practices and compliance with data privacy laws.

      3. Manage device inventory and lifecycle replacements for staff and students.

      Support and Operations

      1. Supervise and support the technology team in providing responsive technical assistance across all campuses and departments.

      2. Ensure systems including student information, email, testing platforms, and communication tools function efficiently and securely.

      3. Implement efficient helpdesk, asset management, and support ticketing systems.

      Training and Professional Development

      1. Provide professional learning opportunities for staff on digital tools, instructional technology, and cybersecurity awareness.

      2. Support campus instructional technology specialists and digital integration initiatives.

      Budget and Compliance

      1. Develop and manage technology budgets and purchasing processes.

      2. Oversee compliance with eRate, TEA guidelines, and federal/state technology funding regulations.

      3. Assist with district grants and technology-related reporting and audits.

      Supervisory Responsibilities:

      Directly supervises district technology staff and coordinates with campus-based technology leaders or instructional technologists.

      Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment; network diagnostic tools; communication and instructional software
      Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional standing and bending
      Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding
      Lifting: Occasional light lifting (under 25 lbs.)
      Environment: Office environment with districtwide travel; occasional extended hours or on-call work for system emergencies
      Mental Demands: Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously; respond calmly to urgent issues; lead change with clarity and consistency
