Reporting to the Executive Director for the Arts, the Director of the Gregg Museum provides strategic vision for and manages the daily operations of the Gregg Museum of Art & Design. This position leads the Gregg as an integrated, collaborative part of NC State that engages the University and local communities. The Director will develop partnerships with NC State faculty, the local arts community, and other departments within the Arts NC State umbrella to expand the reach and audience of the museum. This will include pursuing curriculum integration for museum collections and programs as part of the University’s strategic pursuit of high-impact learning practices as well as opportunities to supplement the University’s courses with object-based education. Oversees creative and innovative development of exhibitions and educational programs, including efforts that help connect the museum to campus-wide efforts to develop outdoor spaces that combine art, experience, and nature. Develops, initiates, and schedules appropriate programming in conjunction with all exhibitions to enhance the educational impact of, and encourage better understanding of, those exhibitions and the permanent collection.The Director serves as principal spokesperson for the museum, including coordinating and leading outreach to students, campus, and the community. Ensures professional museum standards for collection management and that conversation, exhibition, and educational programming standards are met. This position directs the museum’s financial planning, budget preparation, and management, in addition to overseeing strategic planning and growth of the collection. The Director will assign responsibilities, lead, supervise, and evaluate performance of core museum staff. The incumbent will collaborate with the Director of Arts Development to implement comprehensive fundraising and advancement strategies, including the development and cultivation of relationships with current and potential funders and donors (individuals, corporations and foundations). Intellectual curiosity and a forward-thinking perspective will be an asset in this role.
The incumbent will attend a variety of events throughout the year. Some travel and occasional night and weekend work is required.About the company
