As Director of Operations, you will be responsible for leading a crucial aspect of this mission—supervising all operational functions at the site level, encompassing Clinical Packaging, Commercial Packaging, Logistics, and Operational Support. This role is key to delivering reliable, high-quality, and compliant services to our clients around the world.

      What will you do?

      You will collaborate with leaders across Client Services, Quality Assurance, Engineering, Facilities, EHS, Planning, PPI, IT, and HR, as well as the Site General Manager, to translate strategic objectives into actionable plans.

      Together, we will ensure operational performance aligns with both internal business goals and evolving customer expectations.

      Drive team performance by completing sales and operational plans, representing Operations, and emphasizing the impact of contributions on business and customer satisfaction.

      Responsibilities:

      • Lead all site operations, including production, packaging, supply chain, and planning, while upholding GMP and regulatory standards.
      • Represent the Operations function on the Site Leadership Team (SLT), supplying to planning and coordination across functions.
      • Set and deliver clear operational goals that support both short-term business needs and long-term site growth.
      • Align people, processes, and resources to deliver clinical and commercial projects on time and to quality standards.
      • Deliver key operational and financial metrics, using data insights to guide improvements and support informed decision-making.
      • Build and maintain an inclusive, successful team culture that reflects Thermo Fisher’s values of integrity, collaboration, and innovation.
      • Build strong, trust-based relationships with customers through proactive communication and reliable service delivery.
      • Hire, mentor, and support a complementary team of professionals by setting clear expectations, delivering feedback, and crafting growth opportunities.
      • Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and operational excellence in all daily activities.
      • Support audit readiness by leading self-inspections and ensuring compliance with EU GMP and company standards.
      • Work closely with executives throughout the site, region, and division to synchronize priorities and exchange standard methodologies.
      • Support sustainability and workplace safety by promoting responsible practices in all areas of operations

      • Minimum Requirements – Experience/Qualifications:

      • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business, science, engineering, or pharmacy. An advanced degree or PhD is preferred.
      • Proven experience (minimum 10 years) in pharmaceutical, clinical, or commercial supply operations, including a minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role.
      • Experience leading large, multi-shift manufacturing, packaging, or distribution operations in a GMP-regulated environment.
      • Established proficiency in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and adherence to regulatory guidelines, encompassing involvement in clinical supplies, pharmaceutical development, or QA/R&D.
      • Strong business and financial competence, with experience in budgeting, capacity planning, and operational performance management.
      • Proven record to lead end-to-end operations with a customer-focused mentality.
      • Skilled at solving problems and making clear, data-informed decisions.
      • A collaborative and inclusive leadership style that motivates teams and supports professional growth.
      • Experience leading and developing teams with varied strengths in a fast-paced.
      • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in English. German language skills are must for positions based in Basel.
