- Manages through duty managers and leadership team, ensuring timely and on-going communications with pilots. Highlights important work-rule changes, new policies, company objectives, and addresses rumors and concerns.
- Achieves department goals by supporting operational objectives and administrative requirements. Places special emphasis on on-time performance, customer service standards, sick leave administration, and safety.
- Optimizes resources for efficiency while maintaining a safe operation.
- Champions departmental and company objectives, especially as they relate to changes to processes and policies.
- Defines opportunities to re-engineer business processes to streamline and simplify.
- Plans, develops, & optimizes the Inflight schedule for the most efficient use of pilot utilization.
- Ensures pilot schedule meets or exceeds objectives for on-time performance, productivity, and budget.
- Provides Pilot Crew Scheduling team with clear expectations promoting maximization of resources and a friendly and supportive scheduling experience.
- Ensures Pilot Crew Scheduling team adheres to FAA scheduling requirements & works within the constraints of the ALPA contract.
- Updates Flight Operations management on the status of monthly bids, changes to the schedule, staffing, and the operational status.
- Participates in Pilot selection and hiring process.
- Partners with ALPA union leadership to ensure effective communication, swift problem resolution, and to maintain an excellent working relationship.
- Fosters a culture of support, trust and accountability.
- Maintains working knowledge of Flight Operations procedures, FAA, and contractual requirements.
- Ensures Inflight payroll is completed in a timely manner and with accurate information.
- Ensures full cooperation and alignment of the Flight Operations with Inflight, Airport Services, Base Operations and System Operations Control.
- Assesses impact of staffing (base allocations), scheduling constraints (optimization software), budget assumptions, productivity objectives (hard time %) and work rules (duty rest, duty day, etc.).
- Develops people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, and ensures staffing level is adequate.
- Fosters a culture of engagement, holds self and others accountable through trust and authentic relationships.
- Promotes a high-performance culture by cultivating and motivating direct/indirect reports through coaching, mentoring, and by providing regular meaningful feedback.
- Identifies and provides career development opportunities through development assignments and formal/informal training.
- 8 years in any of the following relevant experience, operational, management, finance or strategic experience.
- 5 years of leadership experience, with at least 2 of those years direct people leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
- Must be proactive, self-motivated and work well under pressure; demonstrated ability to anticipate needs of the staff and to maintain an upbeat, positive, and can-do attitude.
- Strong computer and analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks, and interface with large numbers of people in a fast-paced environment.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Aviation operations experience.
- Contract labor experience.

Role Summary
The Director, Pilot Crew Scheduling sets the long-term strategy and oversees the financial performance of our pilot crew scheduling team at Alaska Air. As a people leader, this role establishes strategic goals and direction for a team of leaders to ensure they provide superior customer service to pilots and System Operations Control, uphold our commitment to safety, demonstrate good judgment, and perform their jobs as defined by company policy and the crew scheduling manual.

Salary Details
The pay range and total target compensation package listed above is the expected pay offered for this position at the start of employment. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, your relevant experience/level, experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
