Manages work to ensure the company has a public policy research agenda, and ongoing research studies, on key issues facing the company.
Acts as point-of-contact for senior executives on public policy research that impacts their area of the company, and communicates project status, timelines, and analysis results to leaders.
Develops proactive research agendas, considering both state and federal public policy risks and opportunities impacting business objectives and strategic priorities.
Executes vision for, and contributes to design of, public policy research studies that cut across business divisions, working in concert with business partners and Public Affairs colleagues.
Facilitates the integration of public policy expertise and health services research methods into all Public Policy Institute projects and deliverables.
Ensures critical information flows between business divisions and Public Policy Institute associates.
Guides and mentors team in thinking critically and creatively to identify data assets, research questions, and analytic methodologies to respond to business needs.
Hires, trains, coaches, counsels, and evaluates the performance of direct reports.
Experience in health economics or health policy research preferred.
Advanced degree in public policy, public health, economics, statistics, law or a related field preferred.
Strong knowledge of current policy issues impacting the business and industry preferred.
Understanding of the U.S. healthcare system and the health insurance industry preferred.
Expertise and interest in one or more areas of health policy strongly preferred, including; Managed care, state health policy, Medicare, Medicaid, Affordable Care Act, healthcare reimbursement, mental health/substance use, maternal and child health, prescription drugs, digital healthcare, or social drivers of health.
Travel may be required.

Location: This position will work a hybrid model (remote and office). The ideal candidate will live within 50 miles of one of our Elevance Health PulsePoint locations.
The Director Public Policy, Public Policy Institute is responsible for managing a team that contributes to prospective and retrospective health economic, health policy, and other research activities for the Elevance Health Public Policy Institute (PPI), and maintaining a portfolio of health policy-oriented research in support of the company’s strategic priorities.

Requires a BA/BS in a related field; 10 years of experience in public policy development; or any combination of education and experience, that would provide an equivalent background.
Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:
For candidates working in person or remotely in the below locations, the hourly pay* range for this specific position is $135,600 - $244,080.
Locations: California; Colorado; Nevada; New York; Washington State; Jersey City, NJ.
