- Identifies, evaluates, and executes significant strategic, operations, and cultural agendas calling for considerable changes. Manages the development and implementation of the administrative and support services goals, objectives, protocols, and priorities. Establish appropriate service(s) within UMMC policy and protocol; monitor and evaluates service(s) delivery methodologies and procedures; allocates resources accordingly. Participates in planning, directing, and coordinating the administrative and support services projects; assigns projects and programmatic areas of responsibility; reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures; meets with Command Staff to identify and assist in resolving obstacles.
- Selects professional, technical, and support staff and ensures effective morale, productivity, and discipline; plans, organizes, administers, reviews, and evaluates the activities and performance of administrative and support staff directly; works with support staff to establish work priorities and schedules. Assesses and monitors workload, administrative and support systems, and internal and external relationships; identifies opportunities for improvement; directs and implements changes.
- Encourages and provides administrative and support staff training and professional development; prepares and conducts formal performance evaluations; works with support staff to develop short and long-term goals, monitors accomplishments; establishes performance requirements and personal development targets; and provides coaching for performance improvement and development. Reviews and evaluates information generated by the division; determine information storage and purge criteria to adhere to records retention requirements. Participates in, supports, and fosters the development of a culture that values people and their differences and is free from inequities and barriers to people reaching their full potential.
- Participates in providing clear guidance and direction, assuring the delivery of programs and services to internal and external customers. Research and implement effective solutions and prioritizing problems using a holistic, global approach; putting the needs of the institutional community; developing and analyzing both immediate and long-term impacts of decisions. Respond to and resolve complex and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
- Oversees and participates in the development and administration of the assigned work units' budgets; forecasts and recommends funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; approves expenditures and implements budgetary adjustments as appropriate and necessary.
- Participates in promoting sustainable, environmentally sensitive development and operations in the community and the department. Attend and participate in UMMC community meetings, citizen/student advisory panel, professional group meetings, and related events; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in public safety.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as required and directed by the Chief of Police and Executive Director of Public Safety.
- Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for special event operations and police control needs; assign work activities, projects, and programs; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems.

The Director-Public Safety Support Services provides comprehensive leadership and oversight of the administrative and support functions within the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) Police Department. This role is responsible for managing departmental personnel, assets, and programs to ensure efficient operations and high-quality service delivery. Working in close partnership with both the Chief and Deputy Chief of Police, the Director helps drive strategic initiatives, ensures operational alignment, and maintains compliance with institutional policies and procedures. The position demands a high level of independence, accountability, and expertise in areas such as program and project management, critical thinking, communication, and decision-making, along with a strong understanding of academic medical center operations. Additionally, the Director supervises support services staff and engages with all departmental divisions to promote collaboration and seamless departmental functioning.Education & Experience
Education and Experience Required:
Eight (8) years' work experience in public safety or policing that includes 1 (one) year's work experience in leadership
Certifications, Licenses or Registration required:
Valid US Driver’s License. MS Driver's license required post-hire within 30 days.
Preferred Qualifications:
CALEA Accreditation, Clery Compliance, Dispatch/Communications Center Managerial, Command Staff, and Command level Training Program/Certificate (FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute) preferred.

Must have knowledge, skills, and operations abilities to analyze programs, policies, and operational needs using principles and practices of program development and administration, applying principles and practices of budget preparation and administration to include supervisory, training, and performance evaluation principles, communicate with individuals from various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds while demonstrating respect and sensitivity for perceived differences. Using organized thought, must be able to produce written documents, policies, programs, and other like materials using proper sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Using creative thinking, must be able to problem solve encouraging feedback and help others understand and manage change. Must have excellent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft office suite and other related platforms.
