Job Summary
The Renewables Engineering Director (RED) is responsible for developing and maintaining engineering standards for renewable systems and equipment in the Luminant fleet and providing engineering and technical support to all renewable construction projects across the fleet. The RED provides leadership and direction of all construction engineering activities, oversees Contractor management, ensures continuity with Fleet SME’s regarding standards and turnover to operational support, and collaborates with Luminant Construction and Commissioning Managers to ensure safe, on-time and on-budget project completion in accordance with design specifications and Luminant fleet standards. Key Accountabilities
• Develop engineering / control system design standards for each renewables system in accordance with Luminant standards and Fleet SME guidance, to include:o Solar (panel type, trackers, inverters, controls, etc.)o Battery Energy Storage System (battery type, container, modified warehouse, control, inverters, etc.)• Develop major component/systems standards for each renewables system in accordance with Luminant standards and Fleet SME guidance, to include:o Transformer, Switchyardo Controls (including BOP integration and data security)o Fire Protectiono Air handling• Create and maintain a repository for renewables project designs and fleet standards• Establish a review/update cadence for all renewables fleet standards, to include incorporating lessons learned from previous projects• Complete a hazard analysis of all projects during pre-construction phase• Coordinate with Renewables Engineer – QC Site Support to ensure engineering and equipment standards are accurately incorporated into each project design and Contractor Strategy• Construct, implement and document Quality Control processes and procedures• Ensure contract deliverables are interpreted and executed on-time, on-budget and within safety and performance requirementsResolve pre commissioning equipment design, acceptance, and functionality conflicts
Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements
• 10+ years relevant experience (power generation operations, maintenance, engineering)• Ability to look critically at a problem set, identify unique solutions and influence change• Strong interpersonal and communication skills – to be applied across the organization and externally, including the ability to confidently and effectively explain engineering requirements, including to non-technical audiences.• Occasional long, irregular hours. May often require the employee to work in excess of 12 hours per day and in excess of seven (7) consecutive days. This position requires frequent travel and/or long-term assignments away from home.• Bachelor of Science in an accredited Engineering or Engineering Technology program• Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skillsKey Metrics
