      Director, State Policy PJM

      Reporting to the Regional Vice-President, PJM/MISO/ERCOT/Southeast Region, the applicant will be responsible for monitoring existing and potential future energy policy developments, as well as establishing and overseeing implementation of strategies to directly influence policy. A significant component of the role will involve the formulation and execution of policy, legislative and advocacy strategies at the state level to help advance the interests of our diversified portfolio of renewable energy assets. The applicant may work in the New York or D.C. areas, but will be requested to join the management team in New York City periodically if working in the D.C. area. Travel to state capitols and key facility locations in North America will also be required as part of the normal course of business.

      Responsibilities

      • Establish and implement policy strategies in relation to energy policy in the US– with a particular focus at the state level in PJM/MISO/Southeast region
      • Monitor and report on state policy developments, and develop approaches to allow the business to adapt to ever changing policy development
      • Collaborate with regional team members and other departments, including Federal Policy, to support the regional lead and executive team and to understand markets as they relate to policy development
      • Promote Brookfield Renewable’s interests as they relate to the energy policy evolution
      • Advise Brookfield Renewable’s management on the impact of energy policy developments to the business;
      • Influence energy policy developments through direct contacts, networking and industry organizations
      • Participate in filings, comments, and legislative committees, regulatory bodies;
      • Maintain relationships with other energy policy professionals within the NGO community and in government
      • Coordinate closely with the other teams within the business to effectively manage and influence policy positions and outcomes; Federal Policy, Legal, Communications, Renewable Trading, Operations, etc.
      • Assist with due diligence related to M&A activities and commercial transactions

      Requirements

      • Demonstrated strategic thinking and strong negotiation skills
      • Strong political acuity, as well as knowledge of power and environmental markets, specifically the PJM/MISO/Southeast markets
      • Ability to work with trade associations, coalitions, and outside consultants as well as an internal team of professionals
      • Experience working with legislators, regulators, stakeholders and industry advocacy groups
      • Ability to resolve differences, build relationships and achieve targeted results
      • Experience in project / case management and working on project teams
      • Demonstrated skills in identifying and assessing business threats and opportunities
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • Ability to manage external consultants and lobbyists
      • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently

      Qualifications

      • 7 to 10 years of public policy or legislative advocacy experience, including at least 2 years at the state level
      • A Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Political Science or related; Master’s degree is preferred
      • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with legislative and government advocacy
      • Strong relationships and extensive network with other energy policy and environmental stakeholders will be highly valued
      • Willingness to travel, estimated between 30% and 50% depending on location

      Salary: $180,000 - $230,000
