      OVERVIEW

      The Phillips Collection's internship program is open to full-time undergraduate students, full-time graduate students, and recent graduates. The purpose of the internship program is to offer students and recent graduates meaningful work, educational experiences, and real-life practice in their fields of academic study and/or interest.

      The Director’s Office Intern will work under the supervision of the Executive Assistant to the Director and the Board of Trustees. The intern will also work closely with the Curatorial and Special Events Departments in addition to the Director’s Office and Advancement.

      Duration: Internships run ten to fifteen continuous weeks and 12-20 hours per week. Internship length and schedule may vary depending on the needs of the department. This internship will run January 27 to May 2, 2025.

      Academic Credit: Depending on the nature of the internship and approval of the student's college or university, academic credit may be granted for internships. Student applicants should consult their academic advisor for additional information.

      Duties and Responsibilities

      • Assisting with research related to the Director’s exhibition planning, upcoming meetings and travel, and other institutional priorities.
      • Assisting with day-to-day collaborations between the Director’s Office and Curatorial, Advancement, and overarching museum administration operations.
      • Completing routine data entry on the Director’s meetings and interactions using the Altru system.
      • Organizing Director’s Office files through scanning and organizing archived records.
      • Drafting Director’s Office correspondence to key constituencies.
      • Representing the museum and supporting staff at evening events, such as Phillips after 5, and other community events as needed. Conduct research on prospective donors including individuals, foundations, government agencies, and corporations.
      • Help plan and set up Director’s Office museum-wide initiatives, such as quarterly All Staff meetings, and Board meetings.
      • Create research briefs on prospective donors for managers’ use.
      • Create and collate meeting materials for the Board of Trustees.
      • Assist with a variety of mailings, including catalogs, invitations, and other museum collateral.
      • Other administrative, research, and support duties as assigned.

      Requirements and Qualifications

      • Open to junior and senior undergraduates, graduates, and recent graduates.
      • Background in art history or museum studies preferred.
      • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills.
      • Strong organizational and computer abilities, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
      • Knowledge of iContact, inDesign, Photoshop, and donor databases preferred.
      • Ability to work well with others.
      • Junior or senior undergraduate, graduate student, or recent graduate preferred
      • Must be comfortable and discreet handling confidential information.
      • Ability to work independently, thoroughly and with attention to detail.
      • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and manage priorities.
      • Experience with standard office procedures and practices.
