      Department Overview:

      The McBurney Disability Resource Center is the office for students with disabilities and classroom accommodations on the UW-Madison campus. As part of the student accommodation process, we work collaboratively with students and instructors to provide and support effective student accommodations. And as a part of the Division of Student Affairs, we strive to create an inclusive campus environment that allows students to engage, explore, and participate in the Wisconsin Idea.

      Anticipated Start Date:

      Week of 10/23/2023 or earlier.

      Anticipated End Date (If Applicable):

      The McBurney Center prefers to hire students who are able and willing to work at least 2 years in a student hourly position.

      Remote Work Eligibility Detail:

      This job will primarily include in-person shifts on a weekly basis. For any remote shifts, student staff will use a McBurney provided device to answer phone calls and use enhanced security measures to respond to email inquiries via a personal device (e.g. laptop).

      Anticipated Hours Per Week:

      4-6 trainings hours per week estimated for first 3-4 weeks. 8-12 hours per week after training completed as worker's schedule allows. In-person hours available and encouraged during winter and summer breaks. Hours can range from 8-20 hours per week.

      Schedule:

      Hours are scheduled between 7:45am-4:30PM, M-F, based on student availability and needs of office.

      Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

      $15.00 per hour.

      Qualifications:

      Current UW-Madison undergraduate or graduate student status.
      2.5 (or higher) cumulative GPA.

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

      • Exceptional interpersonal skills.

      • Excellent time management and organization skills.

      • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

      • Constant attention to accuracy and detail.

      • Creativity.

      • Computer experience including e-mail, calendaring, and word processing.

      • Experience working with people with disabilities is desirable, but will train.

      Position Summary/Job Duties:

      1. Respond to requests for information regarding policies and procedures for McBurney services, including but not limited to: Alternative Testing, Note-taking, Alternative Formats, Adaptive Technology, Sign Language Interpreting, and Speech To Text Services.

      2. Respond to requests for disability-related campus information regarding parking, counseling, academic support services, assessment services, financial aid and the McBurney application process.

      3. Respond to requests for information regarding disability-related community, state and national resources.

      4. Set up phone and office appointments for McBurney staff using online applications, Microsoft Office programs, and other technology tools.

      5. Make appropriate referrals to other McBurney staff and to campus and community resources, as needed.

      6. Coordinate loans of McBurney equipment.

      7. Maintain up-to-date McBurney Center information about services and about campus and community resources for referral purposes.

      8. Assist with responding to emails, copying, filing, campus and U.S. mailings and other general office duties.

      9. Evaluate and recommend changes to improve the effectiveness of the office and of the disability program aide position.

      10. Assist with additional duties as deemed necessary by the McBurney Center Staff.
