      Primary Purpose:

      To ensure the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of students by coordinating daily bus routing and dispatch operations. This position supports transportation staff, maintains accurate route coverage, assists with scheduling, and communicates effectively with drivers, campuses, and parents to uphold district standards and provide reliable service.

      Qualifications:

      Education/Certification:

      • High school diploma or GED
      • Clear and valid Texas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
      • Region 10 Certification
      • Must have safe driving record
      • Must be 20 years of age or older

      Special Knowledge/Skills:

      • Ability to use maps and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to follow routes and locate addresses
      • Ability to read and understand documents including policies and procedures manuals
      • Ability to receive and give written and verbal instructions
      • Ability to pass US Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
      • Ability to encourage others and foster a supportive, productive work environment
      • Possess excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

      Experience:

      3 years of experience as certified school bus driver

      Major Responsibilities and Duties:

      Dispatch Operations

      1. Coordinate the daily dispatch of drivers and vehicles to ensure timely and efficient transportation services.

      2. Monitor and communicate effectively via two-way radio to support drivers and address real-time needs.

      3. Respond promptly to driver inquiries and requests for assistance.

      4. Log, report, and track bus driver and bus monitor absences accurately.

      5. Maintain and update the Route Coverage spreadsheet to ensure all routes are staffed appropriately.

      6. Assign substitute drivers and monitors for morning and afternoon shifts as needed.

      7. Notify parents and campuses of substitute driver assignments and delays in bus arrivals.

      Routes and Schedules

      8. Develop and manage all district bus routes in compliance with Texas Education Agency (TEA) guidelines.

      9. Ensure tall route modifications and additional runs align with district policies, guidelines and procedures and are implemented using Transfinder Software.

      10. Assign drivers to Mid Days/Shuttles to ensure that students are moved from location to location in a timely manner.

      11. Coordinate midday and shuttle assignments to facilitate timely student transportation between locations.

      12. Assist the Supervisor of Operations with the assignment of bus drivers, routes and vehicles.

      13. Ensure timely updates to route corrections and assist in maintaining accurate seating charts.

      14. Manage monthly attendance records by printing, distributing, recording, and filing sheets.

      Collaboration & Communication

      15. Work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and staff to support transportation operations

      and to contribute to a positive work environment.

      16. Maintain respectful, professional, and effective communication with staff, parents, and campus personnel.

      17. Demonstrate a willingness to take on various roles and responsibilities as needed and adjust to changing priorities and schedules with a positive attitude.

      18. Approach interactions with drivers, parents, and staff in a courteous, supportive, and solution-oriented manner.

      19. Take responsibility for assigned tasks and follow through on commitments to ensure team success.

      20. Demonstrate a proactive approach to challenges and contribute to group solutions in a constructive and collaborative way.

      Administrative Support

      21. Answer incoming calls and route appropriately.

      22. Maintain organized and accurate records, including logs, worksheets, and dispatch-related documentation.

      23. Serve as substitute bus driver when needed, including availability for morning and afternoon shifts as requested.

      24. Adapt to sudden or projected schedule changes based on evolving district needs.

      25. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

      Safety

      26. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

      Supervisory Responsibilities:

      None.

      Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

      Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; two-way radio; global positioning system (GPS); school bus; safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisher

      Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and twisting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling

      Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; prolonged driving; moderate walking, climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and reaching

      Lifting: Limited light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) on a daily basis

      Environment: Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, and vehicle fumes; work early, or late shift; may work irregular and prolonged hours

      Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress
