If you're interested in joining a purpose-driven community dedicated to creating an ambitious and inclusive workplace, join eBay – a company you can be proud to be a part of.

      The Opportunity

At eBay, we have started a new chapter in our iconic internet history of being the largest online marketplace in the world. With more than 1 billion listings (more than 80% of them selling new items) in over 190 markets, eBay provides a robust platform where merchants of all sizes can compete and win. Each day, millions of users search our diverse inventory. Do you want to help build the next-generation ecommerce search engine that will handle the largest inventory on the planet, provide relevant search experiences, and accelerate eBay's global growth? If you are a senior technology leader passionate about transformation, innovation, and growth, eBay is looking for you.

This is a senior individual contributor role in the Search engineering team, responsible for real-time search services, eBay's proprietary C++ search engine (Cassini), and data indexing/distribution. The platform also functions as a high-speed datastore for all inventory data used across eBay.

The ideal candidate will have built internet-scale search, database, or filesystem platforms enabling innovative product experiences. They should ensure the company remains forward-thinking in technical competencies like scalability, quality, robustness, resilience, and efficiency.

The role involves providing technical leadership, influencing adoption of solutions, and collaborating across teams. As Search is critical to eBay's success, this leader will represent eBay's Search capabilities internally and externally.
