In this job, you will be responsible for developing engineering scope for distribution system upgrades, providing technical mentorship to planning and operations personnel, perform a variety of load flow studies, and provide customer support. You will also produce detailed analyses across a widespread variety of tasks involving the analysis, troubleshooting, design, engineering, and construction of distribution & generation grid projects. This Engineer will join the North Coast Distribution Engineering Team. You will be contributing member of the team involved with the development, interpretation, and application of existing/new engineering standards and designs.

      • Develop detailed distribution engineering analysis and studies required to address needs and/or requirements for grid projects, programs or initiatives. This includes but is not limited to:
        • Identification and planning of new circuitry
        • Load Flow Studies
        • Distribution Automation Programs
        • Grid Resiliency and Modernization
        • Wildfire Mitigation Programs
        • Infrastructure Replacement Programs
      • Collaborate with Technical Planning throughout the design process to balance affordability and operability
      • Partners with Distribution System Planning to provide detailed scope based on high level needs for projects based on the annual Distribution Substation Program including:
        • Distribution circuit upgrade projects
        • New Distribution circuits
        • Plant Betterment projects
        • 4 kV cutover projects
      • Perform analysis and sponsor projects to integrate distributed energy resources and identify infrastructure improvements to reinforce and modernize the distribution grid
      • Provide technical support and deliver technical presentations to internal and external customers as subject matter experts for various programs and initiatives
      • Provide resolution to system problems such as customer claims, power quality issues, and power delivery problems
      • Provide training and guidance on programs and initiatives to districts and other collaborator groups
      • Maintain a safety conscious work environment by following Edison’s safety protocols and safe work practices in addition to providing support with all other duties assigned
      Qualifications

      The essentials

      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
      • Valid CA Driver’s License
      • 2+ years of Engineering related experience.

      The preferred

      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering with Power Emphasis
      • Experience with utility distribution, planning, operations, and distribution equipment
      • Experience in power system engineering analysis including knowledge of applicable laws, standards, codes, and analysis software such as CYME
      • Experience preparing detailed engineering studies and reports
      • California P.E. license

      You should know

      • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.

      • The primary work location for this position is in Valencia CA
      • Position will require up to 20% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
      • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
