      Job Title: Entry level Mechanical or Electrical Engineer in Ludington, MI

      Job Description

      We are seeking a skilled Distribution Engineer to join our team on a one-year contract-to-direct basis. This role involves a combination of fieldwork and remote work, focusing on connecting new homes and commercial businesses to the energy grid or upgrading existing connections. The successful candidate will perform field inspections, engineering analysis, and create design packages for utility installation teams.

      Responsibilities

      • Conduct field inspections, taking detailed notes, pictures, and measurements to assist in creating work packages.
      • Develop electrical drawings and perform electrical analysis to determine necessary materials for site projects.
      • Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis of poles, cable pulling, electric demand, transformer sizing, and voltage drop.
      • Create a Bill of Materials using SAP software and prepare electrical work packages for utility companies.
      • Interact daily with supervisors, peers, and customers, presenting factual information and routine recommendations.
      • Work on multiple projects simultaneously, managing time effectively around weather conditions and project timelines.

      Essential Skills

      • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, or Associate’s Degree with relevant experience.
      • Experience working with an electric utility or electric engineering consulting firm.
      • Proficiency in using CAD tools such as AutoCAD and MicroStation.
      • Knowledge in power distribution, electrical design, and SAP software.
      • Ability to conduct fieldwork and work effectively in office settings.
      • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.

      Additional Skills & Qualifications

      • Experience with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
      • Familiarity with PoleForeman, SAP, and MicroStation.
      • Fundamentals of Engineer certification.
      • Ability to lift 20 pounds and walk up to 2 miles on unpaved surfaces.
      • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.

      Work Environment

      The position is based in Ludington, MI, with fieldwork comprising 10%-20% of the role, and engineering and design tasks making up 60%-80% of the work. Administrative tasks and customer follow-ups account for the remaining 10% of the workload. The role offers flexibility in scheduling fieldwork around other projects and weather conditions, with the possibility of remote work on certain days. Professional dress and demeanor are expected.

      Pay and Benefits

      The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $29.00/hr.
