      A position has been declared open in Weber School District in the Student Educational Access and Opportunity Department for part-time, on-call Spanish Interpreter and Translator. This is an itinerant position based on need. This position is temporary for the 2025-26 school year.

      Job Overview:

      • The Student Educational Access and Opportunity Department is looking for individuals who are interested in providing language translation and interpretation services on an on-call basis during the hours of 7:15 am - 3:15 pm or scheduled by appointment after these hours. An Translator/Interpreter is responsible for facilitating effective communication between individuals or groups who speak different languages. They ensure accurate and culturally sensitive conversation of written text (translation) or spoken language (interpretation) to bridge language gaps and convey meaning.

      Under the direction of the Director of Student Educational Access and Opportunity, the Language Services Team will:

      • Provide real-time interpretation during spoken conversations, meetings and conferences, as assigned.
      • Maintain neutrality and confidentiality in all interpreted conversations
      • Clarify and provide cultural context when necessary to enhance communication
      • Translate written documents, such as texts and articles
      • Ensure accurate and contextually appropriate translations while maintaining the original meaning
      • Proofread and edit translations to eliminate errors and improve clarity
      • Adapt content to the cultural nuances of the target audience
      • Attend professional development and trainings, as assigned

        • Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary essential function of this job.

      Minimum Job Qualifications

      • High school diploma or equivalent
      • Proof of language proficiency in one of the following ways:
        • Provide a proficiency score from the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) from Language Testing International (LTI)
        • Candidates who do not have an OPI score, must hold a USBE Level I Interpreter Certification. Please call the Student Educational Access and Opportunity Office at 801-476-7865 to get information about this credential.
      • Job related experience, preferred

      Compensation

      • Compensation for translators and interpreters varies depending on factors such as language pair, specialization, location, and experience. Generally, translators and interpreters may be compensated based on an hourly rate (paid according to the Interpreter Salary Schedule), rate per word, or project-based.
