SECURITY/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT - A high school diploma or equivalent.

- Must possess a valid Alaska driver’s license and have an vehicle available for travel to schools throughout the Anchorage School District.
- Work experience involving young people, security, or community agencies.
- Experience with evidence handling and chain of custody guidelines.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in the field.
- Coursework in psychology, sociology, justice, and/or emergency and disaster management.
- Assists with problems related to student behavior, vandalism, and parking.
- Surveys buildings for hazards and reports findings to principal and district safety officers.
- Assists in preventing the development of potentially dangerous or violent situations.
- Assists in stabilizing and deescalating volatile situations that may arise.
- Assists in investigation of minor criminal offenses occurring on school property and provides related support as required.
- Works closely with Anchorage Police Department School Resource Officers (SRO).
- Writes and maintains accurate reports and records relating to student discipline and referrals in accordance with department procedures and ASD policy.
- Assists with special projects as directed by the supervisor and/or senior director.
- Participates in periodic training.
- Serves as a member of the department’s duty officer rotation.

Bargaining Unit: ACE
Work Year: 215 days per year, 12 contract payments
Work Day: 8 hours per day
FTE: Full time, 1.0 FTE
Salary: ACE 6; A - M, $48,128 - $64,494, DOE
Job Summary
The District Safety Security Officer’s primary job responsibilities include conducting site visits to schools and assisting with resolving security, safety, and emergency management concerns in buildings, on school grounds, including monitoring student behavior, and observing emergency drills. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).

Physical / Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally life items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to communicate by oral and written means in an appropriate business manner and have cognitive skills to understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.
This job is considered an Emergency Management position and may require the candidate to have flexible work hours, to include nights and weekends.
While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
