Position Type: Regular Full-Time, Exempt
Pay Range: $60,000– $65,000/yr
About this opportunity:
Plans, develops, coordinates, maintains, improves and supervises the day-to-day divisional communication operations with the purpose of improving both internal and public awareness and support for programs and services that advance the Army’s mission. Provides the capacity to enhance evangelism, strengthen community relations, provide better public information, forge stronger media relations, and in general raise the standards of communications assistance around the division. Designs, develops and presents promotional materials using multi-media formats; supports local Command staff responsible for serving as a liaison with the media with regard to the promotion of Salvation Army events, services, disaster relief, etc. Develops and maintains an effective communication plan to manage the Army’s image as well as any adverse public relations events and keeps internal and external audiences informed on Salvation Army activity during disaster and/or crises events. Supervises support staff responsible for providing technical assistance in multi-media communications including the fast-growing area of web and social media communications.
Key responsibilities:Plans, develops, coordinates, evaluates and improves the communication functions for the Division with a goal of increasing public awareness of, and support for, the mission of The Salvation Army; develops and manages an Annual Communications Improvement Plan outlining the strategies, objectives and measurable outcomes of the Divisional communications practices.
Works with the Territorial Communications Bureau to establish, support and maintain the highest professional standards of imagery, design and display to reflect the motives and mission of The Salvation Army; ensures that established standards permeate the division. Implements an integrated/high standard of messaging in all forms of communication; ensures standards which ultimately offer a focal point to effectively link communications services within DHQ, and then around the division.
Participates in the creation, design, preparation and/or upgrading of promotional materials. This includes annual reports, brochures, newsletters, bulletins, videos, exhibit materials, websites and programs for use at conventions, conferences, Salvation Army functions, community, divisional and/or local events; ensures that developed materials are made available to keep donors, media, and those requesting information of The Salvation Army up-to-date on the activities of The Salvation Army in the local area.
Prepares and disseminates internal and external news and press releases in both written and electronic formats; shares news with the entire division and THQ, secular and Christian media; ensuring this is accomplished with the goal of integration of a common identity.
What we are looking for in you:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Relations, Communications, or a related field is required with a Masters Preferred, and Five years progressively responsible experience administering a variety of internal and external communications functions for a large organization, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
