      Summary

      Moffitt Speros Outpatient Center and the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Proton Center are set to open in January 2026. This state-of-the-art facility, located in Speros, Florida, will offer a comprehensive range of cancer care services, including screenings, diagnostic imaging, infusion services, and advanced radiation therapy. The Proton Center will house the cutting-edge ProteusONE proton therapy system, providing innovative treatment options that target cancer with unmatched precision while sparing healthy tissue.

      The opening of these centers marks a significant milestone in Moffitt’s mission to expand access to world-class cancer care and research. By alleviating space constraints at existing campuses, the Speros facility will enable Moffitt to enhance patient care and dedicate more resources to groundbreaking cancer research. Together, these centers will provide patients and their families with a wide array of sophisticated services and comforting spaces, furthering Moffitt’s commitment to delivering hope and healing.

      Position Highlights

      The Dosimetrist I performs radiation dosimetry activities under the guidance of a Dosimetrist II and/or Sr. Manager and at the direction of the Manager, Dosimetry Services. The main areas of involvement include participation at simulations, plan preparation by contouring normal tissue volumes, performing dose calculations, use of computer applications for treatment planning and preparation of the electronic treatment calendar and medical record for treatment delivery. Other activities may include assisting with brachytherapy planning, radioactive materials handling, radiation safety, patient setup assistance, and continuing education and research assistance.

      Responsibilities

      • Aid therapists during the simulation process. Act as a conduit for information between the simulation and dosimetry teams. This includes advising simulation team on setups to ease planning and informing dosimetry team about issues complicating setups.
      • Must be knowledgeable in CT anatomy to contour normal tissue volumes, and capable of image fusion techniques to combine different data sets. Departmental policy requires that all contouring and fusion to be reviewed by a physician prior to clinical use, but it is expected that it will be performed at a level where it will only need “fine tuning” by the physician.
      • With the guidance of a more senior dosimetrist or medical physicist, use the information acquired at simulation, and the prescription provided by the physician, to prepare isodose treatment plans that are acceptable to the physician. Compute verification calculations using departmental data resources as required. Transmit computed machine values and plan parameters to the electronic treatment management and recording system as directed by departmental guidelines. Prepare plan for final physician and physicist review.
      • Assist the physician and/or technologist in setting up the patient treatment to the specifications on the treatment plan. Assist in the fabrication of custom treatment devices.

      Credentials & Qualifications:

      • Entry level position, no experience
      • Associate's degree- any field of study

      any licensed CMD's will be considered for Dosimetry II- proton planning experience is not required but is a plus

      Minimum Skills/Specialized Training Required:

      Computer literacy

      Advanced math proficiency (i.e. Algebra)

      Problem identification and solving

      Work independently as well as in a team setting

      Dosimetrist II requirements:

      • Associate's degree in Radiation therapy
      • MDCB - Medical Dosimetry Certification Board
      • 2 years of experience in dosimetry at a radiation therapy center utilizing computerized treatment planning for external and interstitial/ intracavitary treatments.
      • Thorough knowledge of radiation safety.
      • Understanding of anatomy to facilitate adequate contouring. Knowledge of treatment planning to provide acceptable treatment plans efficiently.
