Recruitment: The State Highway Administration’s (SHA) Office of Audits is currently recruiting for a contractual DOT Internal Auditor Trainee located in Baltimore City. This is an interview and hire position that is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below.
This announcement may also be used for future vacancies throughout the state of Maryland for SHA.If you indicated veteran status on your application, you must submit your DD-214 along with the completed DTS-1 (application).This is a contractual position, which offers some state paid benefits.
Nature of Work: The main purpose of this position is to assist in conducting finance and compliance, economy and efficiency, and program result audits of the records and accounting systems of various SHA offices to verify their correctness or to determine compliance with provisions of a statute, contract, policies and procedures.
The Office of Audits is an independent appraisal function established to examine and evaluate activities as a service to management and the Secretary. Internal Audit is an internal control that functions by measuring and evaluating the effectiveness of other controls. To this end, Internal Audit furnishes findings, conclusions, and recommendations concerning the activities reviewed.
This position will learn to conduct internal audits under close supervision by receiving instruction and training from experienced staff auditors and the Audit Manager to promote future advancement within the department. This position will assist in the review and documentation of procedures and internal controls, conducting audits, documenting pertinent testing and results through thorough and complete preparation of audit workpapers.

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in accounting and related courses.

Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.
Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the state of Maryland.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
