This vacancy is located in the DPS Police Capitol Detail Section in the Office of State Police located in East Baton Rouge Parish. This posting may be used to fill a probational appointment or job appointment.
Applicants must live within 75 miles from 1835 N. River Road Baton Rouge, LA 70802. Applicants who do not meet the residency requirements will be rejected.When you submit an application, you will be applying for all of these positions. During the interview process, you will indicate your preference of section; Commanders will consider this when making hiring recommendations. Typical job duties include:
Capitol Detail – Officers assigned to these duties conduct proactive police patrols of the State Capitol Complex and downtown Baton Rouge. Officers enforce state and local laws and ordinances, conduct proactive traffic and criminal enforcement, investigate crimes, and prevent and deter unlawful activity. In addition to their police duties, officers frequently act as ambassadors of the state as they interact with visitors to our great state.
State Facilities Security - Officers assigned to these duties provide police protection to thousands of state employees and visitors throughout Louisiana. These officers enforce state and local laws and ordinances, conduct frequent security patrols, investigate crimes, and prevent and deter unlawful activity.
Applicants must be able to qualify with firearms, complete advanced driver and weapons training, pass a thorough background investigation, and meet all annual training requirements. Non-POST certified applicants may be required to pass a physical assessment that consists of a timed 1.5 mile run (20 minute maximum time), push-ups (minimum of 10), and sit-ups (minimum of 10).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No experience or training is required.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have attained twenty-first birthday at time of application.
Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment.
May be required to complete a Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) course.
May be required to qualify annually with a firearm.

Learns protocol for investigations of criminal complaints.
Trains for certification in emergency vehicle operation, firearms, defense tactics, crash investigation, officer survival, de-escalation, leadership, enforcement of traffic and criminal laws, as well as other pertinent training courses.
Completes DPS Police specific training provided by the Louisiana State Police Training Academy or DPS Police Instructors.About the company
