      Job Overview

      The HQ AFRL Systems Engineering and Program Management Division (ENS) seeks a highly motivated senior professional to fill the senior-level DR-04 position of Principal Space Systems Engineer to lead space systems engineering, program management, and technology transitions within the HQ AFRL Engineering and Techical Management Directorate at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
      Position duties include but are not limited to:
      • Provide AFRL/EN subject matter expertise and support for space systems engineering (SE), Program Management (PM), technology protection, and tech transition to Mission Organizations (Msn Orgs).
      • Lead efforts with Msn Org chief engineers to define and enhance technical and programmatic equities unique to their space mission areas. Lead enterprise space SE representation for AFRL in relevant groups/boards, and other similar cross-organizational research and acquisition
        working groups.
      • Lead development of enterprise-wide technical governance process. Guide Space Acquisition and SE streamlining activities and alignment across AFRL, other government and industry partners.
      • Lead implementation, management, and updates to applicable AFRL policy; develop and lead training efforts and implementation of best
        practices across all AFRL space experiment programs ensuring appropriate engineering and technical rigor.
      • Provide oversight to ensure cybersecurity requirements, including cryptography, are identified for all AFRL space systems; facilitate programs in identification and execution of needed efforts for adherence or waivers; work with appropriate organizations to streamline processes for Authority to Operate (ATO) approval.
      • Work with AFRL programs and outside space organizations to identify and facilitate space experiment residual use opportunities.

      Required Qualifications

      • United States Citizenship.
      • Ability to obtain and maintain a Special Sensitive security clearance.
      • Must have a professional S&E degree; a bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (OPM Qualifications)
      • Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the DR-03 (GS-13 or equivalent) grade level.
      • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
      • This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring a Level 2 Practitioner Non-Critical certification in Engineering & Technical Management (N). The selectee will have 24 months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained. Applicants for this position are encouraged to list any acquisition certifications in their resume.

      • Traveling between Kirtland AFB, NM and Wright-Patterson AFB, OH (up to 25% travel) in support of organization activities.

      Desired Qualifications

      • Significant space systems experience in Systems Engineering (SE) and Program Management (PM), including launch, launch vehicle, propulsion, spacecraft, ground systems, space operations, satellite command and control, RF and electro-optics.
      • Significant hands-on experience with engineering concepts for (as applied in) space mission areas.
      • Familiar with AFRL Space efforts, and able to articulate and advocate for AFRL space programs within and outside AFRL.
      • Experience in DAF systems acquisition, including SPO and R&D
      • Knowledge of AFRL policies and instructions, including AFRLI 61-106, 61-103, 61-103 V1, and 61-103 V3.
      • Experience in, or working closely with, an AFRL Headquarters unit.
